Nice renderings, but where's the "groundbreaking"?

Only 8 more weekdays left in January. Current weather is bitterly cold, but Hudson Yards WAS touting "groundbreaking" in January.

Or has the 1/16 press release pushed it off till February?

I have not seen any obvious pieces of their specialized drill on rails. Where would they store it? The current tracked Bauer drills (three yellow vertical masts in the week old photo below) do not have to get out of the way of LIRR trains, but you can't drive them over the still very active tracks north of the construction fence:

The massing is very reminiscent of MVRDV's olympic village concept:

Example of rail yard activity to be overbuilt..

Flickr's hardcoreshutterbug posted a bunch of 1/22 photos that show the human activity in the West Side Yard before Related's "groundbreaking". This photo is looking east towards 10th Ave/ the AP HQ bldg after the snowstorm. The 3rd tracked caisson foundation drill rig's yellow mast blends in with the AP bldg in the photo's upper center. IIRC the walkway that is being sanded contains some of the test pits/templates for upcoming foundation drilling. IIRC the LIRR was running on weekend schedule yesterday....

Why would they put something so low res on their site? Anyway 35 looks better there, I want it white not tan. It looks like they now have a real design for the phase 2 tower to the left. I hope they will reveal phase 2 soon. They must be salivating over the residential money to be made.

It's crazy how good this complex looks. Can't wait to see that in person. Hope that will happen some time.

That would mean a skip in the office floors. The way they have it now is having the gap between retail and office.

Fabio this is not the tower to go after as a floor cheater. This is a pretty tame example.

There are tons of towers taller than this that are going up all over the world. This is a nice design, but the height really isnt that impressive nowadays.

New York doesn't play the "height to impress" game. It's not Wuhan or Dubai that thinks height compensates for shitty design. I don't think it's a cutting edge tower the likes of Shanghai Tower. But it is a stunner and it would be the envy of any city in the West.

Not saying New York builds for impressive height. Just saying that the height of this building really isnt impressive. Its too short compared to the rest of this development to really be considered the developments signature tower.

Well it was originally intended to be 408m not so long ago, but its height was reduced twice; this is possibly due to a few floors which weren't attracting tenants so they probably transferred those air rights to other buildings which could be the reasons why the others have seen height increases...

But there's no need to worry, there's a high chance that this won't be the tallest building in the Hudson Yards

This project is better than WTC Towers.
