I know heights will definitely change but those towers looks like a good 70 floors.

What I like about this is the variation in styles (not all glass either) and the density.

I definitely agree..... as great as the first stage of Hudson Yards is, the second is awesome too! Like you, Eric I love the variation in styles and different materials...and it is like a whole neighborhood in itself. Love what this area is going to look like though this part probably will probably not be completed til 2025.

If you want recent models to analyze...

That reminds me, did anybody get a good shot of those tunnels at the bottom of the big model at the TWC display? If so, please PM me. I'm dying to know what those labels say. Alternatively, if anybody just knows regardless, do tell. I'm guessing they represent Amtrak, NJ transit, etc, but not sure what else.

The HY Facebook page also linked to a great article in the Times about Richard Tenguerian, the master model builder who made the models above, along with hundreds others: A Translator of Blueprints. What an awesome job that would be.
If you want to analyze other views (& user assembly) of recent model(s) watch the ~ week old Bloomberg video filmed at Related's TWC office, featuring Jay Cross. I had not noticed that there are labels for some of the underground structures till I watched this video closely...
For example this view (@ 0:46 on the Bloomberg video) from the west shows the new #7 subway stationand the smaller round tunnel that appears also in the eastern view you posted.

Bloomberg news, posted Feb 27, 2014, 720P Youtube video running full-screen on a 1080 monitor, relevant section snipped and then down-rezed to flickr's "Large 1024"image hosted on flickr

I really love that cylinder building! In a few years my financial situation will be better and could maybe afford a condo in it.

It's a good thing we call skyscrapers (200+) ''mini'' here.

Also, "that cylinder building" might be built & ready for occupancy in a few years. Coincidence?

However the current reality for the 30 HY and 35 HY building sites is not that much different than that shown in this snip from Microsoft's Bing.com. The centers of 30 & 35 HY will sit roughly above the dashed white line that runs south of W 33rd St. The imagery is from 2012 and the area east of 11th Ave & north of 33rd St looks considerably difernt in that the #7 infrastructure and Hudson Blvd Park are close to being finished.

the Bing view above has a closer orientation to the model orientation at Related's TWC office photo from last week:

So we'll have 5 towers U/C by the end of this year.

Excavation continues.

Looks like they've definitely hit rock bottom. Maybe we'll see some explosive action soon??

Neat! Certainly rock at the west (11th Ave) end. Looks also like they'll have to start lifting out the debris in muck buckets soon.

I note that the 3 tall yellow caisson drills are still sitting ~ where they've been sitting for a ~month?
Hopefully drilling of the overbuild platform caissons start soon. Maybe they're waiting for the calendar start of spring??

I'm not that excited about this tower any more from a design point of view ( I am from a development point of view). It looks a bit squat now and out of proportion.

Yessssss, that's what I'm talking about! The whole neighborhood looks miles better with the "stepping stones" of Phase II leading up from the river. And the new, shortened 55 HY actually works nicely as an aesthetic half-step between Phase II and the 1000 footers at 35 HY and 3 Hudson Blvd.

Now all we need is Manhattan West.... Until we get greedy and start asking for the 57th Street towers, that is.

That will be a great cluster. Bigger than the skyline of many cities.

Well looky-here. They're drilling caissons! Is platform construction finally underway?

Yowza: looks like you captured the event!
& I was wrong in my assumption that the big pipes were SOE struts for the trench.

If you zoom in on your original photo you can see the late 1980s Amtrak Empire connection tunnel box in the mid distance on the current excavaation's left (north) side. It look's like they've piled a couple of rows of Jersey barriers on the existing tunnel box as a retaining wall and are using it for the earthen ramp up & out of the tunnel box.

Should be a LOT of stuff happening here in the next few months.
