"Related is on a roll" - they might be using their Kanadian Konnections. Oxford Properties Group is "Wholly owned by The Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement Systems (OMERS)":
Quote:
Talks began a year ago, and even though Neiman Marcus Group was sold for $6 billion while they were discussing the project, it didn’t affect the negotiations, both parties said.

“They’re extremely excited about this project with Hudson Yards and have been very, very supportive,” Ms. Katz said, referring to the new owners, Ares Management and the Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board. “From the minute we started talking to them about it, they were very encouraging for us to pursue this.”
-NYTimes
"Neiman Marcus and Related are planning to host an invitation-only cocktail party on Friday evening overlooking the Hudson Yards construction site to celebrate the new marriage." - please bring a camera & post the photos. I'm assuming the cocktail-party overlook will will not be from their competitor Brookfield's 450 W.33rd Street. Maybe Abington Hous..

I assume the retail podium/"SHOPS AT HUDSON YARDS" (with Great Room) will start rising next year.
They are making good progress on bridging the middle portion of the overbuild platform between the south and north sides of the Eastern Rail Yard. The almost 3-week-old Hardcore Shutterbug photo below shows them drilling caissons between shutdown LIRR tracks just west of the yard's 10th Ave throat. I'm guessing the 90 ton columns they were test building on 33rd street might go where the drills were operating.
The immediate foreground is what they will have to span with their humongous trusses once they get to that stage ?next year?

NOTE: The special-build drilling rig that could operate from the rail tracks that Related talked about last year was NOT built, which is why they have to shut down 3? tracks to drill between them. LOTS of construction staging involved AND they had to relocate Hardcore Shutterbug et al out to Flushing, Queens.

And the video cap below is what should start rising next year:

Inside The Shops, and Neiman Marcus (read more in link)
http://www.newyorkyimby.com/2014/09/...rcus-more.html

Quote:
YIMBY also has a first look at interior perspectives of the Neiman Marcus, which will occupy 250,000 square feet of the site’s enormous, one million-square foot retail component, spanning between 10 and 30 Hudson Yards. The location will be the store’s first in New York City, and with Nordstrom also opening a flagship at 217 West 57th Street, the city’s retail scene will soon be busier than ever.

Time to bump up the height for this thread!!!

render vs. ILNY reality

They are getting "there" on the platform but at least 3 years & 4 months to go from top ILNY photo to bottom render. Both images are looking WSW across 10th Ave with 10 HY on the left:

Maybe j-biz will return to the office/loft building on 31st street for the new neighborhood vibe...

Given how much has changed about every component of the Yards, I wouldn't call anything final until they cranes are disassembled and the construction crews have gone home.

1284 ft. is a good height, symbolically, it's nice to have it creep past the ESB. However I wouldn't at all mind if it kept on creeping up, towards the original 1337 ft. figure or even beyond. Related is on such a roll nabbing tenants in this neighborhood, it wouldn't surprise me if they added more leasable floors wherever possible.

391m! woooh good to see it's height increased, still would love it to be 408m again though!

Still though, with the amount of design changes these buildings have gone through and height variations, I won't hold my breath until like Marshall said, until it's topped out! (Or at least it starts rising)

I remember seeing that height figure somewhere earlier but there wasn't anyway to confirm it. I'm glad that 30 HY is back above the ESB.

Yes!! I was super disappointed when they reduced the height bellow ESB. I'm glad they realized what an icon they are creating!

Yeah. I can only imagine what this area will be like congestion wise when 30, 15 & 35 start rising AND the High Line at the Rail Yards & 1st phase Hudson Park open, say next year.
Maybe even the 7 subway extension will open next year!

STIG, enjoy the visit: weather should be good.

Just avoid 10th avenue between 30th and 40th, that's my advice. (not that anybody should be driving in Manhattan anyway...)

Today's HY NY FB links to an interesting Fortune.com article on the long history of redeveloping the rail yards starting with:
Quote:
In 1956, real estate legend William Zeckendorf Sr. proposed a grandiose development for the site flanking the Hudson River, featuring the world’s tallest skyscraper. The project died when the banks balked at providing the unheard-of financing package required to realize Zeckendorf’s monumental vision.

...
The platforms are incredibly important to Related because it needs to build extremely tall buildings to make the project profitable. “The height of the buildings was crucial because half of Hudson Yards is open space,” explains White. “We were able to engineer the platform for the design we wanted for the buildings. Despite the challenges, we weren’t restricted in what we could build.” Related is spending $1.5 billion on the platforms for both Eastern and Western Yards, and considers that number its “land costs.” It’s a good deal.
And the article even quotes Geoff(rey) Butler, the contributor of structural photos to the HY NY FB page.

NYC’s Hudson Yards project will be an entire city — on stilts

http://fortune.com/2014/09/04/hudson...ity-on-stilts/

via Fortune "Column used to support the platform of Hudson Yards" at the steel fabricator in Virginia. IIRC correctly Geoff Butler/Tishman Construction took this photo in the last couple of months

No height adjustment for this tower yet for this thread!!! come on!!!

IMO, It's seems like Related has made the decision to tone down 15 & 35 so they can make their crown jewel, 30 Hudson Yards stand out. Probably the reason for the height increase.

Also, they probably wanted to integrate the Hudson Yards with the rest of the city instead of making it look like a completely different and a separate city with all these forward looking towers which is something I honestly wouldn't mind.
