Once it's complete, 30 Hudson Yards will be New York City's fourth-tallest building. It will house the city's highest public observation deck with an open-air viewing platform

At 1,100 feet in the air, views from the observation deck will be spectacular. The developers sent a drone into the air to create this image of how the landscape will look to visitors

Hell yeah! Three new observation decks for New York! Maybe this will drive ticket prices at ESB and the Rock down!

This surprisingly pessimistic article about the development of the Hudson Yards site was posted on YIMBY yesterday:
http://newyorkyimby.com/2014/10/zoni...son-yards.html

The focus of the article is a possible rezoning of parts of the area for housing but the following statements are made with regard to the prospects of the project as a whole:

"The project to pepper the Far West Side with new office towers has stalled, years after the city’s real estate market has emerged from the downturn."

"(...) Hudson Yards is in dire straits. Only one tower – 10 Hudson Yards, developed by Related with Coach as an anchor tenant – is a sure thing so far."

The article, in my opinion, completely ignores the fact that an anchor tenant for 30 Hudson Yards has been found, that the tower is actually officially under construction, and that Neiman Marcus has signed up for significant amounts of space in the retail podium.

Wow... suffice to say, Stephen Smith doesn't sound like an expert. Conjecture abounds. Almost sounds like he's talking about Hudson Yards ten years ago. Has he been in the neighborhood lately??

What's with YIMBY going all "editorial" lately? I don't know if Nikolai still haunts these woods, but dude stick to your strengths.

That open air observation deck kicks ass !!

It's a beautiful building with a nice height but this spectacular balcony makes this building really stand out !

I think it's the best feature of this building. Will be one of the best viewpoints in New York.

It's also nice to see that they have removed that butt ugly supporting beam under it.

It looks much more elegant now.

Yeah, I honestly couldn't believe that article was on YIMBY. Very out of touch, especially when we have many other outlets reporting on coup after coup for Related (not to mention that finding an alternative to JPMC at 50 and 55 HY will actually be beneficial to their long-term earnings). 30 is under construction, Related has a new partner at 55, plus Brookfield just signed Skadden for their first tower much sooner than anyone anticipated. Everywhere we've seen, it seems the exact opposite of Smith's assertions about the area is true.
