I'm sure it's been shown before but I cannot wait until the Hudson Yards & Bouleveard will be completed. #stunning

Gorgeous render, V_G! When that area is built out all the way down to the 1,100 ft Silverstein Tower it's going to be mind blowing!

I think that this will look ridiculous. A nice fountain would have been ideal. I envision something like this:

Or this ridiculous Kapoor sculpture in London

I agree and from Jacko's description and the examples you supplied it sounds like an adult play ground. That would be ridiculous placed in the middle of the Hudson Yards Plaza.

I hope for something like a bigger versions of the La Geode in Paris. That would look fitting and pretty cool.

I don't think so, but that column does have grayish glop on top of it...

Why not ?

Concrete would make the columns stiffer.

What's with the fountain obsession? If you want fountain ur gonna get one like that child infested one in Chicago. It will be some insane contemporary fountain, not the classic euro type that I have a feeling that you have in mind. Also it will be kid infested and noisy because kids like water and they will be pressured by parents to allow it.

I like the kapoor concept, but it is too fair ground looking and has poor materials. If you could get it to move and look beautiful, then it would have been an epic hit. Anyway, If u want the old fountains, You need to go to old Europe and wallow in the genius of artists of yore. The usa can't copy euro heritage, it must be itself. Also, it's unlikely that a developer is going to want something like that that few will care about in his project. A simple or even ostentatious fountain would surely be a giant bore here and the public and press would yawn. It's all about being novel and getting eyes to look because that will get them the most press and most leases. They are looking to make the biggest and most novel spash they can and they have the money. .

Here is what I want. I won't get it but if they get even 5% I would be happy. A giant metallic silver colored swirling maze of usable paths, culminating in a peak made out of pure platinum. The entire structure would slowly rotate and slowly shape change. It would be a mechanical sculpture that people could ride in little pods. The shape would be flower shaped then it would be flame shaped. It would expand and contract. It would be full of LEDs and completely change color.

I like fountains, i love the noise they make, and they look nice, they create a very calm and soothing atmosphere... Then again i live in a very European style city

Yeah, they are fine when kids and dogs don't dominate them. Furthermore, fountains are not going to get the press. These people are trying to sell apartments and I think they want attention. I doubt a European fountain or even modern is going to do that, it's old hat.

That's why they went with the avant grade sculpturist. I bet he would never do a fountain, he's far too progressive. We are going to see something without h2o I would wager. The whole point is to get people talking from Beijing to bogota. It's not to make ny a more pleasant place. It's a big marketing job lead by some clever people will deep pockets with the sole purpose of getting rents and making bank.

I absolutely love fountains, especially if I can put my feet into them. I don't see anything wrong with a publicly accessible fountain. It isn't just the kids who like it, everybody likes it in summer. Best place to have an ice cream and enjoy the sun if a pool isn't nearby

The problem with avant garde, City-of-Platinum, is that it gets people talking a maximum of six months, then nobody remembers it. A real people magnet will still work in a hundred years, but businessmen today don't care about that, they want their pockets filled now, and when interest lets up a few months later they'll vandalise the next city with some monstrosity to get short term profits. Sustainability is not a concept anyone still understands in the 21st century.

What a ridiculous comment.

Further, New York has more old fountains than most European cities other than Rome or Paris.
