If I didn't have to get ready for work in five minutes, I would SO be making an anti-Skyscraper body shaming meme pic right now! Maybe tomorrow...

It's something like Kapoor's idiotic London sculpture, right? If one can "go in it, on it, and up it" and if it's about 200' tall, then it must be, unless, of course, Hearherwick pays homage to the Statue of Liberty and does a similar type of mega statue that has stairs inside.

I just hope it's not something mega-retarded like Kapoor's London eyesore.

Heatherwick's work is extraordinary. I'm sure whatever he produces will be amazing. He's some architect and he's the right person to spice up a rather formal and buttoned down collection of buildings.

I love his pavilion for the 2010 expo and his London Bus is a great design.

NY is in for a treat. The guy's stuff is so unorthodox that it will be the center peice of the HY. The bland corporate boxes around will be the background and this will be center stage. Everyone will be looking at it, just like at the WTC the station is the eye catcher whereas the towers probably get a cursory glace at most.

Unfortunately, glassy faceless modernist office towers will never be loved by the public. It would be nice if the buildings themselves were the works of art like in the old days, rather than having to rely on a specialist architect to create something visually interesting that will get the average joe excited. I know for sure that the towers certainly won't!

Overall, the design and overall height for the HY is very bland and unexciting. The development as a whole is amazing but the towers themselves on the whole leave something to be desired. I either dislike or am ambivalent about the design for most of the towers going up apart from the curved E tower, and that appears to have been ruined. Oh well, hopefully Mr. Heatherwick's work will make up for the lack of awe inspiring architecture.

Are you saying that it's not like either thing I described or that it's not mega-retarded or both?

Are people actually going to like it?

Whatever Heatherwick builds is going to be absolutely great. Love him or Loath him, it's hard to argue against the fact that the man is an utter design iconoclastic genius. Most of what he has produced is extremely thought provoking. I can't imagine I won't like it, since I've found something I like in most of his work to date.

For those wishing for "simple fountains" and other more traditional styles, prepare to be blown away. Try and be a little open minded also as his work is not easily appreciated on first examination. The good news is that I predict that the style here won't be anything overly abstruse or outrageous given the client and the target audience.

Now NY just needs the man to design them a nice bus or train that actually looks good.

I am done commenting on this fountain topic now. Whatever is built I hope is spectacular.
I wish this Fountain was guarded by the Police.

In ~5 years time, NYC's skyline will be pretty mindblowing.

Hudson Yards, Vanderbilt, the WTC will hopefully be almost completing Tower 2...come on, 2020!

I'm sorry, but the examples named in the second sentence don't make sense in the context of the first sentence. Buildings miles apart from each other don't make a skyline. Perhaps you meant the skylines (plural) will each get more mindblowing.

All of these skylines (plural) make up NYC skyline.
