I think all of the designs are placeholders but those twins look very much like 99 Church St. so maybe the same residential/hotel concept for the site?

The lower one closest to the park is a US Postal Service vehicle maintenance facility. (they should sell it and move that stuff to the Bronx). The one to the north is an old cold storage facility turned into art galleries with an attached garage. Plenty of air rights to add to the inventory!

Which is taller then every building in the country except for one, and taller then most other buildings in the world.

NY doesn't need to build a 600m building like developing cities around the world because it has nothing to prove. Those cities build 600m buildings to try to show the world they're growing and whatnot.

New York builds from demand. Those other cities build to show they have a bigger dick. New York doesn't need to build the world's tallest to show they have big dicks.

http://blogs.wsj.com/metropolis/2011...d-with-a-view/

the midtown skyline view from 1 WTC is going to be even more awesome when all of these are completed. The two tallest towers are going to be supertalls

yeah, i knew the difference. Only one of those is a supertall, but it does almost match the ESB's spire height.

Totally agree.

I deleted several offtopic posts. People, avoid taking this discussion to a place it doesn't belong, including China, Dubai, Mecca etc. talks. Next time someone starts this he gets punished by at least a brig. Cordial thanks for your attention & understanding. Please go on with Hudson Yards now.

Maybe three SunTrusts stacked for that touch of po-mo southern klass. Then again three SunTrusts stacked on top of one another probably couldn't reach over 1200'. Bad idea.

I am trying to get a sense with what exactly render are we discussing here? What proposal finally got the approval. I recall that Brookfield was out. So who is building it?

Related. They've even released a lot of renderings of the first two office towers that will rise.

The south tower, which is around 300m, will rise first. The shorter, fatter part is office, and the slender part is residential.

Here's a link to a nice video for the project:

I'm fairly sure that those are the designs for the first two towers.

Related is actively marketing them to tenants. Also, the south tower will sit completely on solid ground and does not require a platform. Therefore, once the first lease is signed (supposedly with Coach for 600k sf), construction will start. Someone on SSC reported that rebar is visible in the site.

In fact, a lot of the designs are basically finalized. For example, this is the hotel that will rise on the site.

It's shown in Related's brochure for the Yards: http://www.related.com/destinations/...20Brochure.pdf

This formerly forlorn area (actually, it's still decrepit) will yield a forest of 300m+ towers in the decades to come.

The Hudson Yards is just a very small part of the future.

I cross my fingers, that they will raze the javits centre, during the redevelopment of the HY's. It is an urban planing nightmare POS that has to go. Imagine what potential its area has, and the knowledge it has unlimited air rights makes me crazy.

They're in the process of remodeling it right now, so it won't happen for a while. But I agree it eventually should happen and probably will. Even when it was finished around 1979 or 1980, it was already basically too small for NY.

Just a matter of finding a spot big enough somewhere in the city that could house a new convention center. In the meantime we'll have the pleasure of watching all this park space, the new boulevard, and buildings rise!

Damn, those are some lame designs. NYC can do better. A lot better.

Especially at such a prominent site.
