I don't think there are any Fighter Jet bases close enough to Midtown/Downtown Manhattan to make good on that promise.

The nearest bases are in extreme southern New Jersey and on Cape Cod in Massachusetts.

Which is minutes away at fighter jet speeds. Atlantic City has a National Guard base with F16s.

NYPD is rumored to have surface-to-air capabilities now, for better or worse.

Off-topic thought on the picture: In that view, and considering what it's going to look like in a few years, part of me wishes 45 East 22nd Street was a supertall.

From this vantage point, 30 HY is going to completely overtake the dominance of the ESB. 10 HY is already doing that and it is 400 feet shorter.

Since One Penn Plaza this angle already wasn't the best for the ESB.

True, but it still appears as the tallest structure in that vicinity.
30 HY will completely takeaway from that appearance.

Let's be real, ever since the plan for the Westside redevelopment took shape, this view of the ESB was going to be not just overpowered but totally obscured. 1 & 2 Manhattan West; 30, 50 and 55 Hudson Yards; Tishman; 3 Hudson Blvd; and what feels like countless other skyscrapers going up along the Park and Blvd, are going to form a wall...

...so enjoy the ESB from that point of view while you still can.

Exactly. The skyline as it's been for so many years is going to be completely rewritten from this angle.

Looks like it's up to what, 7 floors now, with the 8th floor steel being laid down?

Once this thing starts to become visible from across the Hudson it's going to immediately start making an impact due to its massive width.

Yeah.. I agree. But you just can't help feeling kinda nostalgic xD.. just like the Chrysler.
I guess it's just life.. old timers giving way for young timers xD
And could have been worse towers blocking the view.. so gotta be happy at least for that.

But at least from Queens side.. the view won't change much in the next few years.. if I'm not forgetting any new proposals.
