What you are stating only applies to towers 30, 35 and the Mall. They are indeed above the rail tracks and have no basements. This will also apply to the future towers of phase 2 (Western Yard). But towers 10, 15 and 55 are built on "solid ground".

Anyway, buildings constructed in flood-prone areas are now required to have utility equipment located in upper floors instead of ground or basement floors, so it won't be affected in case a flood occur, as happened in many buildings in lower Manhattan during Sandy. Those yards suffered flooding during that storm.

According to the official website, this building is 1,296 feet (395 meters) and 90 floors.

http://www.hudsonyardsnewyork.com/work/30-hudson-yards/

Maybe it's outdated perhaps, either way this building will be a giant and just awesome

The 395 m. height figure is taken from AMSL.

Ah okay, still tall (and massive) though.

I suppose the 90 floor figure may be exaggerated kind of like the WTC?

It will, we are talking about 7-10 supertalls in that shot in a few years only.

I cannot wait for SHoPs 10th avenue supertall proposal across 10HY to be revealed.

EDIT: The only thing that this area now needs is, that the MSG goes and itīs air rights be used for NYCs first megatall.

Fixed That For You.

There are plenty of places to build a skyscraper. There is only ONE Penn Station.

In order to provide enough capacity for the growing passenger traffic, a dedicated building is necessary-the foundations for a mega-tall would be too obstructive, and the occupants would create too much additional traffic.

I took germantower's use of the term air rights to imply a tower on a nearby site, not on top of Penn/MSG. I think just about everyone here is invested in the idea of a proper replacement for the station. Selling MSG's air rights to develop a prime parcel nearby would be a good way to inject some additional funding into the station redevelopment (not unlike the way the Transbay Terminal in SF was partially financed by the sale and development of several nearby skyscrapers, including Salesforce Tower).

Not to turn this into the new Penn Station thread. As this discussion relates to 30 HY, a supertall (or yes, a megatall) in the Penn Station area would really help link the new skyline rising on the far west side to the rest of Midtown, as would some tall towers in the Lincoln Tunnel area or even Hell's Kitchen.
