Yep, it looks like backup power systems for the trading floors that are planned.

Not that it's so important but someone should edit the floor count

We used this graphic for the height and floor count. I think the developer might be "fiddling" with the floor numbering.

Sorry if it's been asked before, but how is that actually being built? I assume the rail yards lie at street level, so with 'decking' would the central area be above the remaining street level? Would the street running through go up on to the deck, then down once over back to street level? Confused.

The tracks are like 30 feet below ground level. The North (taller) Tower should be on top of the rails. The South tower (or most of it) is actually on a platform at ground level away from them.
Hope that helps.

A real comparison between North Tower (1292ft) and the Empire State Building (1250ft).

I never really thought much about this thread, but I've been skimming through it and I have to say, these buildings are impressive! Great design, they'll be a beautiful addition to the skyline.

I think what I like most is that, despite the towers not being the same heights or being exactly the same design, the complex reminds me of the original WTC. There's just a class here that just hasn't clicked with me in other NYC projects right now. Greatly looking forward seeing this one rise!

Yeah it has to be one of the most thought out developments I've seen.

Look through the thread, construction will start this spring on the shorter of the two towers.

When they sign a huge tenant, which will probably occur soon.

If HY North tower gets a tenant before 3WTC I think I'll puke. I'll understand why, but I ain't gonna like it.

2 and 3 WTC, 15 Penn, and Manhattan West will be built in time. I'd prefer to see the Yards' towers rise simultaneously since they play off one another. Also, with the possible exception of 2 WTC, the 400m+ north tower will be among the best office buildings under construction in the world.

HY North tower is taller and better than 3WTC so I wouldn't mind...
