Since construction starts in a few weeks I will go to the south tower and get pictures every Thursday since it is on my way from my Internship.

West Side development projects on track to transform city's future

The Far West Side's transformation into the city's 21st century hot spot is on the fast track, and Manhattanites can already see some of the changes.

For nearly 30 years, developers and city leaders pushed to change the once-industrial area into a tourist spot and a place where New Yorkers and businesses could find a home.

"I used to call it the city's utility closet," said Ann Weisbrod, president of Hudson Yards Development Corporation. "It provided the city with a lot of opportunities for people to build."

Here's a look at the major projects composing the "new" West Side:

It may be a little shorter, but it's the same design.

looks to me like they switched around the crowns but yeah you're right "complete redesign" is an overstatement.

Why did they redesign it?! What was wrong with it?

Most likely money. Shorter = Cheaper.

Hopefully it's not much shorter. But definitely not a supertall anymore.

I'm not sure either. I just hope the South tower will still be considered supertall.
I think the tweak is because of the tenants who will take up the space.

The north Tower looks taller on that render, might be up to 420 meters tall. If it beats 1WTC then I will be impressed by the Hudson Yards and will forgive them their rather fat appearance from some angles

I'd rather have a 1400 footer and a 800 footer than a 1250 footer and a 1000 footer

The downside of shortening a tower is that it will look fat, unless they fully rescale the design.
So Im never in favour of doing that.

Imagine a glass floor on the OB-deck of the HY North Tower. :O Looking straight down to the ground from there.

I thought the same, it would make that platform really unique in NYC, it would be kickass. Where there are already two other observation decks in NYC (ESB and Rockefeller Center) Three with the upcoming WTC, plus the possible observation wheel in SI. So this one has to offer something different to attract the tourists (and I think the newyorkers as well)

So, something, like this?

I don't know if I like this future complex or not.
But this observation deck... Love it!

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but what's not to like about these dramatically styled supertalls? Also, the setting will be amazing. I can't wait to see the dramatic fountain.

thr fountain might end up becoming an icon in it's own right like the buildings towering around it.
