~25 minutes in
So we have the North Office Tower, the Coach Tower, the Culture Tower (~800 ft residential above the Culture shed) and the Equinox Tower (1000 ft+ mixed use tower with Equinox fitness center in it)

they also showed some new angles of each tower and a beautiful plaza.

Jay Cross of Related confirmed the leases of L'Oreal and SAP in the Coach Tower. Thus, the entire 1.7m sf tower is largely pre-leased before the first brick has even been laid.

He also said that the event space at the top will be the highest occupied space in the city, including 432 Park.

Wait, if it will have the highest occupied space then it must be taller than the currently known 407 meters. 432 Park on CTBUH lists its top occupied floor at 397 meters. Considering the huge crown on the Hudson Yards towers I doubt that the top floor slab would be at least at 398 meters at a height of only 407 meters. That would be just 9 meters below the roof and according to the officially released render that spot will be very thin. though that is just my speculation. Anybody got more detailed info about this?

A very nice video indeed. I find this the most interesting bit. It shows how the load of the tower is going to be distributed over tracks.

I was always puzzled how they going to distribute the load over the rail tracks - surely you can't just put supertall on the platforms. I was always thinking that they will somehow put some columns between the tracks but apparently at "the throat" it wasn't possible due to the density of the tracks.

What? You expected them to advertise the competition? As long as both towers are just holes in the ground they can claim whatever they want regardless which is planned to be the tallest. They don't need to take into the consideration a tower that doesn't even exist and is not guaranteed to be build for 100%.

They are going to put some nice super columns in there!! With the load being diverted through the whole building and in that right side of that picture. Awesome steelworks expected!

They actually included 432 Park in their claim of the highest occupied space.

If heard it right he says something like "building on park ave" not saying it's name.

Anyways in the very same video he says the tower is 1250ft (381m) and 70fl so there is really no space for any guessing. 432 final height is secret so he can say now pretty much what he wants. What is certain is that with 381 meters I believe there is no way this tower was taller than 432 park ave.

Since it was said in the video that coach leases "only" 750k sqft this means that L'Oreal and SAP combined are almost 1,000,000 sqft!

Most interesting info from the video for me was that only the office part of Phase I is leased at cost in order to get the project going. They plan to make their money with the retail and apartments...

That still leaves 700K empty, but that should be ok.

L'oreal is looking for 400k+ sq ft. SAP is looking for about 100k.

About 400-450k will still be available, depending on how much L'Oreal decides to occupy. They currently lease around 500k in its current HQ.

At the end of the video, the guy points out that at the very top of the building, in the tip of the crown, there will be some sort of capsule-like private lounge room ( It is the white ball in that brownish triangle, pointed by the second sign from the top) Though I think this building may end up being a little bit taller than the last anouncement, anyway.

But I don't think that we, common mortals, would ever visit it, I guess the rent of it, just for a few hours, must cost a large sum of $$$$$.

like you said it will probably be for bigshot gatherings. I'm sure earthcam will manage to get a cam up there, it would be good for publicity.

http://www.archpaper.com/news/articl...34Hudson's New Front YardsNelson Byrd Woltz creating public spaces for Manhattan megadevelopment.

Courtesy Nelson Byrd Woltz

The dusty rail yards and blocks of barren concrete on Manhattan’s far west side are beginning to be transformed into the office, retail, residential, and cultural mega-development called Hudson Yards. At its center will be a new civic square designed by Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects (NBWLA). The firm is also designing the six acres of streetscapes for the project.

Hudson Yards will connect with three other significant landscapes: The High Line at the south, Hudson River Park to the west, and new Hudson Boulevard, which is being designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh, to the north. For NBWLA principal Thomas Woltz, the meandering nature of the High Line and Hudson Boulevard and the linearity of the Hudson River Park called for a large-scale gathering place within Hudson Yards, which would become a destination and defining feature for this tabula rasa neighborhood. “One of the goals is to connect to these landscapes fluidly but distinctly,” Woltz said. “The urban plaza should be a kind of sitting room for the entire west side. It should be a place for spectacle, large groups, small groups, and individuals.”

Though the design is still evolving, Woltz and the developers, Related and Oxford Properties Group, are planning a six-acre plaza ringed with trees, a water feature, and a large central artwork. Woltz intends to use innovative horticulture as a major formal feature of the plaza, including large stands of clipped native trees, and seasonally timed plantings to draw visitors and New Yorkers. “That could be a massive bulb display for Fashion Week,” Woltz said. “We want the horticulture to be something people come to see throughout the year.”

For the landscape architects, creating intimate spaces under the canopies will also give the space a human scale, something they feel is crucial given the great height of the adjacent skyscrapers. “It will create a soft ceiling,” Woltz said. Café chairs and tables on crushed stone will populate the ground beneath the monolithic tree canopies. The plaza will be a privately owned public space, so it should be highly maintained. “Related has made a commitment to create a great public space for New York over the long term. Too often maintenance is overlooked,” he said.

For the streetscapes, Woltz is looking at European models where sidewalks flow seamlessly into streets without curbs and bollards to protect pedestrians.

Though NBWLA has a national reputation built on dozens of award winning projects, Hudson Yards is by far the firm’s most prominent commission in New York to date. For Woltz, working on a landscape of this scale and civic impact is nothing less than “career-defining,” he said.

“The open spaces in Hudson Yards are our greatest honor and obligation to the city. This will be our legacy for all New Yorkers to enjoy,” wrote Jay Cross, president of Related Hudson Yards, in an email. As with LA’s new Grand Park, which Related helped develop and will maintain as a part of their massive Grand Avenue Project, the developers see high quality public space as a major amenity for real estate development.
