Yonhap News

Seems like construction is going to re-start soon!

It will go on sale soon and POSCO is expecting good results with help from the recovering Korean economy.

The new resort will resume construction later this year (Q3 or Q4), and POSCO is expecting the building to top off within 2018! The new landmark of Busan:

The project, which has now been taken over by POSCO, will be renamed "Haeundae LCT The Sharp".

POSCO plans to start selling units in October, so restart of construction should be imminent.

I just saw on ad on TV about it and I was so ecstatic.

Really glad to hear it, but does POSCO really need to append "The Sharp" to the name? This isn't one of their commieblock developments.

Well, I understand why you say that, but I can also understand the other perspective. Sure, this project is on a totally different scale from other The Sharp projects, but I get why POSCO wants to unify all its projects under the The Sharp brand. And from what I've seen, most of The Sharp buildings are fairly new and tall, unlike some Lotte Castle or Samsung Raemian from the 1990s.

And Korean's other tallest residential Landmark also keep their usual brand (Haeundae We'Ve The Zenith, Haeundae I'Park Marina), so I'm not too surprised by POSCO's decision to use its The Sharp brand.

Here is the ad I saw on TV yesterday

News cast :

It confirms the parcelling of units starting in October, and sets the opening date for November 2019.

Sure, it makes sense to put your most prestigious development under the name of your lesser ones from a branding standpoint--Hyundai and Kia do the same with their luxury cars.

It's just that if they're going to insist on using English, something that rolls of the tongue more easily would be nice. I understand that it's going to be mostly Koreans who buy these, so they may not notice one way or the other, but still....

Oh, if your argument was based on the actual name "The Sharp", rather than branding strategy, then I totally agree.

As you probably know, the "Sharp" is actually the ♯ symbol. It's like the # (hash / number sign / hashtag / pound sign) symbol, except that it's a little crooked and used for music. I don't think any Korean would get what it means. And it doesn't even sound luxurious or imposing in any way (like SK View or Lotte Castle...), so I have no idea how the managers at POSCO brainstormed and found the Sharp to be a good name...

This project is now moving at double speed. Ads are all over the city of Busan and also on national TV. There was even a small airship promoting the project on Haeundae beach.

The showroom / gallery is almost completed. It will probably open up next week or so.

As for the construction site itself, it was hectic. There was literally a huge truck entering or leaving the premises every minute. Still in the earliest of the earliest phases, but they're truly going full speed now.

Here are two pictures I took on Saturday. The angle is poor because the place where trucks were entering leaving (which had a great view) was too dangerous and constantly monitored by security personnel.

Thanks for the update; I'm glad to see this fantastic project moving again.

Seems like one day you're in Seoul, the next in Busan, kimahrikku. Business or pleasure?

I was on holidays last week, so I went to Jeju and Busan. But otherwise, I'm pretty much always in Seoul, as is the case today.

I thought it was still in prep until the core of frameworks started?

Groundbreaking ceremony held for this project, along with an English-language article in a major publication from today's press

Quote:
POSCO E&C breaks ground for nation's tallest apartment complex

POSCO E&C began construction of the nation's tallest apartment complex, LCT, in Busan Thursday.

Some 300 guests, including company executives and politicians, participated in a ceremony to celebrate the start of construction.

The Haeundae Tourist Resort LCT Development Project will include construction of one 101-story building, the 411-meter tall Landmark Tower, and two 85-story residential towers (339 meters/333 meters) in the second largest city of Korea.

With a total investment of 1.5 trillion won, POSCO E&C will build the tower, the second-tallest landmark in Korea, and the tallest apartment complex here.

The construction is slated to be completed by November 2019.

"The LCT project will lift the city's competitiveness by a notch and become an icon of innovation, making Busan a truly global city," said company CEO Hwang Tae-hyun, during the groundbreaking ceremony in Haeundae, Busan.

"We pledge to successfully carry out the construction without a single misstep," he added, showing his determination for safe and on-time construction.

Situated just behind a stretch of white sand along Haeundae Beach, it is expected to serve as a one-stop lifestyle center with facilities for everything from leisure and recreation to shopping and business.

The massive construction project, which once hit financial hurdles and cancelation of a contract with a previous builder, was given to POSCO E&C.

As the builder of the 305-meter-tall Northeast Asia Trade Tower, one of the tallest buildings in Korea, the company has secured the know-how and experience to build skyscrapers. It also built the Songdo First World and Busan Centum Star Tower

Construction has started in the sense that they're working on the site, but for this forum's purposes, this is definitely still in Preps. It won't be moved to U/C for at least 6 more months at least, I'd say. When they're done with the digging and have completed at least some of the foundations.

So still Prep.
