Good idea to revitalise old shelter. It will be very nice tower with soul from history reason.

I love how Germany uses old buildings and build modern things in mix with them - like Reichstag

Interesting idea, reminds me of the Elbephilharmonie in Hamburg where again, they're building on top of the shell of an existing building.

I like it! Strange bomb shelter by the way, aren't these supposed to be underground or something?

In Germany you will find many Bombshelters built in a similar form (although mostly square) around the big cities from WWII. I think it was cheaper and faster to pour cement only than to first excavate.

Today many of this shelters are used as storage, for band practice (sound proof) or are changed to houses.

Interesting use of what I think can very well be called heritage.

I have a deep respect for the way Germany is facing the black pages of its history. In many other countries all evidence of fascism would be erased asap.

As they are bunkers they are not easily removed. Europe is full of these from WWI and WWII. It is just too expensive to remove them (the extremely thick walls make them very hard to destroy). Only in the last years techniques came up to cut through the walls to create openings for windows and therefore reuse them as houses.

Maybe these bunkers will be the only remaining buildings of our time in thousands of years?

Brilliant use of a difficult site and very creative at that. The contrast is really fantastic. Great project.

Will be very special for Bochum. I am very curious how it will look like when it is finished.

Unfortunately, no real skyline will form because the highrises are too scattered throughout the city.
