That 3rd grade kid is my uncle's stepfather's foster-child. That's why he knew where Budapest is. Seriously.

Hi Dude! Let me try to answer your question (in a nutshell) :
There are no definite and indefinite verbs. These are different conjugations, you know, like "ich liebe, duch libst, etc.," if you pardon my French. Almost all verbs can be conjugated both ways. Which "paradigm" to use is quite simple. It depends on the object that goes with the verb. If you are talking about a definite object, you will use the definite conjugation. If you speak about an indefinite object, you will use the indefinite conjugation.
For example: let's say you love A woman: it is an indefinite object you love, so you say:
SzeretEk egy nő-t. (nő-t of course is nőt, I am just showing off.)
Now if you love not A woman, but Jana you will have to chose the definite conjugation:
SzeretEM Jana-'t. (Janát, of course)

Good luck with your Hungarian studies: shoud you have any more questions feel free to ask them. Mine is: is Jana a girl's name?

Hi there people, first time I'm in this forum, I thought of writing this here instead of a new thread. I'll visit with friends Budapest (and Hungary) for the first time in a few days, I would like to hear your advice of what we should do during our 7 day stay, what to do and what to see! And thanks!!!

I would say the following things are a must in Budapest:

- Citadel (difficult to get there by public transport but totally worth it)
- Buda Castle
- Walk through the Pest downtown. What I would to is to climb up to the Citadel, then climb down, cross Szabadság bridge, turn north on Váci street and keep walking until the Parliament via Vörösmarty square-Danube promenade-Zrínyi street-Basilica-Szabadság square. Though this is a 6-7 km walk with some serious climbing at the Citadel, so it might be too exhausting for some.
- At least one lap on the Great Ring in a 4/6 tram
- Andrássy avenue and the Heroes Square. Andrássy avenue is pretty long, it's not a bad idea to take M1 till Kodály körönd and only walk the rest. Don't forget to see the park behind Heroes Square (Városliget) with the replica Transylvanian castle (Vajdahunyad vára).
- Two really nice optional excursions are a walk in the inner 8th district (inside the Great Ring) around the National Museum and district 11 on the Buda side (between Móricz Zsigmond körtér and Gellért square). The Gellért thermal bath is a must, worth every cent of the entrance fee.

If you also plan to see Hungary outside Budapest I would recommend Szentendre at first, which is easily accessible even by a suburban train that runs every 20 minutes from Batthyány tér station. I don't know if they also operate in winter but a boat trip to Esztergom (operated by MAHART from Vörösmarty square boat station) is a great experience.
If you plan longer (whole day) trips, I would recommend seeing Szeged which is a pretty big city in Southern Hungary with a lot of very unique and very beautiful architecture. It also has a very pretty Christmas fair and it's accessible by an approximately 2 hour train trip.
Another good option might be a trip to Veszprém (my favorite city in Hungary, it really looks like a cream-cake). On the way it might be worth it to visit my city, Székesfehérvár, which also has a very nice Baroque city center and a Christmas fair. I would avoid trains on this route though because of the ongoing reconstructions between Budapest and Székesfehérvár, low travel speeds and the large distance of train stations from the city center in both Székesfehérvár and Veszprém. I would take the Volánbusz buses instead, they are operated from Népliget station with a high frequency. Both direct buses to Veszprém and ones that stop in Fehérvár are available. Make sure to avoid Thursday and Friday afternoons and rush hours (after 15:00) for buses leaving Budapest (and Sunday afternoons going to Budapest) because they can be heavily crowded.
Pictures are available in the Hungarian SSC forums for all the places I mentioned, they might be worth checking out before you choose your destination.

Have a nice stay, Merry Christmas!

There is a tour company in Budapest which offers quite extraordinary tours. These tours are based around a theme. The one I've read the most about is called something like "retro" and shows stuff that are quite interesting from the 1950-90 era.

I believe these are walking tours with public transport used here and there.

One thing if you don't do then your trip is not complete: [b]Széchenyi thermal bath.[b] It's the best one, but if you have some time and like baths, then you could fit another one or two in your week of stay. For nice restaurants check www.chew.hu. If you'd like to have some beers, then the best places are in the 6th and 7th district, they are full of em.

When will you come? In Spring or in the next weeks?

I also think its a good idea to visit Veszprém or Szeged.
Pécs is also beautiful but its under constriuctions because pécs will be the European Capital of Culture in 2010.

I think there are some sightsee tours in the city center in Budapest..and this include a tourist guide.. and take you everywhere. So its also a good choice.
Hungary is the Spa's country, so dont miss to go one of them. Széchenyi is very nice..

Or if you dont like swimmig..there are boat trips on the Danube..From Budapest to Esztergom,Visegrád..
In Esztergom there are a giant basilica
Picture:

And in Visegrád there is a beautiful castle..

In Szeged there are a big dome.

In Veszprém there are a lot of churches and old building in a hill.

And pécs is also very very imposing city.

And all city has very beautiful promenades/walking strees which i mentioned..

And Budapest.. awh. i dont want to write and link pictures.. because there wont be enough space to link them
If you have,or wanna buy a guide book..and dont want to pay into a sightseeing tour. Its a cheaper solution. And you decide what do you want to see...so this is also a good choice.
Or in the wikipedia there are also a lot of information
or in google there are some tipps which famous historical buldings worth to visit. and which cities beyond Budapest.

Good Luck !

Once we have turned this thread into an online tourist book let me post my favorite picture from Veszprém (not my own, it's on Panoramio).

Seriously, it is a very beautiful and very underrated city.
