NEW YORK | City Tech Tower | 305m | 1000ft | 65-70 fl | Never Built

image hosted on flickr

Thanks to Derek2k3 at wired new york for unearthing the rendering, which he reckons to be 65 to 70 floors and 1000 feet with spire.

The architect is Renzo Piano and it would be built at the New York City College of Technology

you can read more about it on wired new york and curbed

Extremely unlikely. Just look at the Atlantic Yards project... A lot of Brooklynites are wary of the borough becoming like Manhattan... But it inevitably will.

Yes, it seems inevitable if NYC wants to grow - Manhattan is already too dense. I guess the land prices in Brooklyn are still acceptable.

The tower is plain but nice

Dense and RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE!!!

NYC has no choice but to expand out from manhattan. The middle class can no longer afford to live in Manhattan. They either have to transfer to Brooklyn, Queens, Bayonne, Newark or Jersey City. Either way, locals will not like it but they have no choice but to cope with it.

There's still lots of room for development in Haarlem once they manage to clean up the district completely.

Other than that wouldn't new office development in Jersey City make more sense than in Brooklyn, especially since there are still quite a lot of vacant plots near the riverfront.

The yellow is horrendous, and the spire isn't that bad but the whole top of the tower could be better. I do like the simplicity of the building though, it will be great if a supertall gets built outside of Manhattan. Sweet rendering too with the ESB reflection.

One question though, if this will be built at the New York City College of Technology, then what is the function of this tower? It looks residential, but I'm not sure.

The title needs to be changes to "NEW YORK CITY" because Brooklyn is not a city. But I guess Brooklyn's fine too. I don't think the yellow would look bad in life but it wasn't a good idea for the renderings. I can't wait for the day when every borough of NYC has a supertall.
