Now the World Trade Center Tokyo (163 m, 40 floors, opened 1970) is to be dismantled as well.

And another one will bite the dust in Tokyo next year.
Now it's the 130m tall Shinsei Bank Headquarters in Uchisaiwaicho, Chiyoda-ku overlooking Hibiya Park that was constructed in 1993. Here's a picture from this tower a couple of years ago before the new Iino Building was going up next to it. ![]() http://www.blue-style.com/ And here's a picture taken by me last year from Hibiya Park. ![]() A new 20Fl tower will be constructed here before 2017, it will most likely have a similar height but with less floorspace. The tower had been vacant since 2010 when the Shinsei Bank moved to a new HQ in Nihombashi. |

It's being replaced by a new project. I liked the aforementioned old tower far more than what's proposed.

I agree, especially considering the proposal doesn't seem to utilize the any land better, which is a main reason why you see a fair number of skyscrapers demolished in Tokyo. Also, it might not conform to 1982 earthquake laws, which is actually the year it was completed, and any sort of renovation isn't as cost-effective for how much the land costs.

The Henninger Turm, in Frankfurt, Germany, with 33 floors and a height of 120 metres (390 ft), and having been built in 1961, is currently under demolition for a new residential tower which resembles the former silo.

Tokyo wat r you doin?! Tokyo stahp!
![]() That Shinsei Headquarters surprise me, the building looks like it is in excellent condition and the even the design looks not outdated. It's only 20 years old. Also the destruction of the Sofiel came as a surprise to me. In Simcity 3000 unlimited there was a building inspired by the sofitel.

Not a skyscraper, but this is the tallest building ever demolished in my hometown, Fuengirola, Spain. Apartamentos Olivia, 11 floors tall. It will be replaced by a 5-star 14-floor hotel.
It's the one on the right: ![]()

Demolition of one of Toronto's last remaining art deco skyscrapers began a few days ago. The Concourse Building was built in 1928.

There was an attempt to save this building, but it failed. The developer plans to re-create 2 of the exterior walls; that's what passes for preservation in this city these days. As long as it appears from a distance that the building is still there, it is.
The reality is that 95% of this building will end up at the city dump. All the interior walls, interior spaces, floors, ceilings, etc. will be lost. Torontonians complain all the time about having so few historic buildings, but continue to tear down the ones they have. A lot of the old heritage buildings you see in Toronto are actually just shells to give people the illusion that they're still there.
