i dont think that i will collapse too cuz its base-to-height ratio is 10:173
this approximately equals to one to twenty

but chicago spire's base-to-height ratio approaches one to ten (63:610)
this makes the chicago spire most slender building in the world

The only place you will maybe slender buildings is Hong Kong but don't know how tall the tallest pencile tower there is and how wide or narrow its base is, but they sure got very narrow pencil towers there!!
This "little" tower in NYC is the NYC version of a pencil tower...

Hope they will swiftly cladd this tower...I wanna see it with its glass facade finished!

thanks for that updat krull!!

the base is 4m x 16m

so the entrance is roughly 64m²

So, 1 strong centenary wind and the tower will break somewhere at 17th floor. Or one smal plane and one big fog...

my goodness i've never seen anything like it in my life very tall 173m for something thats what 4m? the renderings suggest the facade is a very good choice indeed if this takes off i'd love to see a whole area with these pencil thin shape towers

amazing what advancements in technology and design will let you do. And I find it unlikely that a plane would hit this in a fob because it would have to get past all the other towers around this one.

Ever since I started reading SSC a few months ago, I have increasingly, as I walk around Manhattan, been looking up at all the tall buildings like a tourist. So, I decided I might as well take the next logical step and start taking pictures, and what better place to start than with 785 8th.

Unfortunately there was some glare in the pictures (I'll try to do better next time) but you get the idea.

Nice

The tall and skinny sleek design is eye catching. Another great addition to the already magnificent skyline of New York City.
