obviously the building is thicker than 4m - only the front portion is so slim, the tower gets thicker in the back ...

it's a difference if you speak about 4 meters or 6 for example ;-) and I'm pretty sure, it's even more than that

Very nice. Remarkable that 170m towers are so taken for granted in NYC.

Don't like it. Eventually it will get covered by something better, I hope.

I saw lot size details somewhere but can't find them now. The building is on two lots, one fronting on 8th Avenue and one on 48th Street. The 8th Avenue lot is irregular, about 23 feet across in front and 45 in back. The 48th Street lot is about 20 feet across. Not sure about the depths.

Very little work has been done in the last month, at least work visible from the outside. I don't know why.

Lots of people are not too fond of how the glass is turning out - nothing like the rendering.

Very nice tower. 566ft seems short but Austin's tallest building is only 563ft now. I think the slenderness of the tower makes it look very unique. I would love to live in this building.

But will there be another tower directly next to it? It has one side that hasn't got any windows and that old building looks like it's going to be demolished.
It had a fire. I think the building that used to stand where the condo tower is going up burned beyond safe limits and was taken down. Unsure. I do know the one with boarded up windows had a pretty bad fire few years back though. The city might own it, or the insurance company. Not sure. I do know that 8th ave has stayed relatively non-high rise because there are active efforts to keep the old brownstones and low rises. I like it that way, mostly because it gives the island of manhattan a varied look from different time periods and different building methods. Kudos to them. I was actually wondering what this was, as every time i came up off the E train i'd see it with the safety nets.

Because prefabricated low-e curtain wall sections are really the best way to go in most cases. They could have made it a little more eye catching though. Anyone see that condo tower down near the battery that just got finished? I believe it's right near the BBT interchange. I like the semi-opalescent low e glass it has, kind of a funky transparent blue-green deal. The verizon building near bryant park has similar new cladding, though the effect is not nearly the same. Maybe i'll get some shots tomorrow when i meet up with my woman at WTC path.

I love this wafer-thin tower; I will definitely have to check it out the next time I'm in New York. I know the engineers know what they're doing, but it seems amazing that such a thin tower can support itself.
