So in other China threads construction stopped because of the winter/snow right? It doesn't get that cold in Shenzhen and other parts of China?

can someone tell me whats that concrete grind around the pit is good for? never got that part.

For the same reason than fortified castle towers are round.
This structure is designed to retain the perimeter walls from collapsing. A circle has a natural structural resistance to external pressures.

To better explain lets say you have a rectangular cardboard held between two ends. If you strike the cardboard in the middle it is easy to break . Now if you have a cylindrical cardboard There is no such vantage point.
