That doesn't look so bad to me. If you've got a nicely furnished apartment you should be fine.

I definitely don't think this would be the worst place to live but it looks like a Levittown in high rise form: the architecture is so monotonous and banal it's depressing -- to yours truly, anyway. Still, as far as the developed world goes, it's miles ahead of exurbs or, you know, Phoenix.

Most of the Hong Kong photos were taken with telezoom, so one gets the impression these developments are crowded beyond belief.

Some photos are also badly photoshoped like this one:

Many of Hong Kong's new towns or ‘villages’ are situated in amazing surrounding, especially in comparison with suburbs in other major cities.

And overall, especially the high-rise residential areas are not that crowded.

Sure, the buildings are not very beautiful and unfortunately, most flats are very small. On the other hand, living in these areas also has its charms. The crime rate is very low, ethnic tensions or marauding youth gangs are relatively uncommon. Usually, you’ve got good access to public transportation and beautiful natural scenery isn’t far either. Many developments also offer plenty of shopping and recreational (many could do better though) opportunities.

The problem with Hong Kong's apartment blocks is mostly space, which would be considered small by Western standards.

Having said that, I've lived in Hong Kong and really, its not as bad as one may think.

Aye, it's overrated.

How much space does one really need?

I'd rather live in a cloned single family home than in a cloned concrete silo

The only truly secure system is one that is powered off, cast in a block of concrete and sealed in a lead-lined room with armed guards - and even then I have my doubts. Gene Spafford.
I am Basque, not Russian, the "Siberia" thing is a joke.

LOL. Then most freaks who pay 300,000 euros for living in those houses protest against 8 floor+ "skyscrapers" because they are not eco-friendly and mere especulation, they say.
