lol, I heard that they were planning to turn rundle all into 2 levels on each side starting at the south side and going along. They were planning on doing this because lots of the offices above the stores are vacant.

It would be great to see Rundle mall by a bustling shopping precinct by day (Its half way there), then turn into a huge nightlife hub of the city. Its so quiet at night. Imagine Nightclubs, bars and clubs lining Rundle Mall...great!

I personally like the look of the Myer Centre.
However I agree that the top floors are an embarrassment. Something innovative should be done to attract people back up. I really like the idea of an ice skating ring. Those banners and hanging plants in the atrium should also be removed because from the ground floor they kind of block out the view of the upper floors. |

What banners do you mean? Do you mean the sails? (are they even still there?)

Those sails are there I believe, for the same reason the extended glass barriers/railings are there. So I was told..

If we had money I have great ideas for our poor myer center, its nice on the outside but inside it needs more class.

i personally think it ruins the look of rundle mall, and i know that there are other forumers who feel the same way.
the main reasons that the myer centre has lost its appeal is because large shopping centres (marion and ttp, especially) have drawn customers out of the cbd and into these convenient, air-conditioned shopping centres. cinemas, food-courts, supermarkets, department stores, as well as many smaller specialty shops make these places more appealing to shoppers of all ages. myer centre's problem: lack of parking, and if you do manage to get a park it is very expensive...if they manage to solve that problem, a cinema complex along with intencity perhaps, may make the myer centre more appealing

TTP, Marion, and West Lakes these days, offer everything the City does.
People from those outer suburbs dont need to travel all the way into town, as they have everything they need in the big centers. |

Im closer to Rundle Mall than Marion, yet If I need to shop, Id go to Marion.
Town has this vibe which makes it feel like a chore to go there. This is fueled mainly by poor parking facilities and the fact that the thought of taking a trip into the CBD can be dounting. The only solution for this would be better transport which means the tramline extension and better connectivity from Tram line to Train. even this would be a poor fix. The other thing is ofcourse the fact that its outdoors. I wouldnt mind seeing attractive sails go up outdoors, but this could mask some of the precious facades that look over Rundle Mall. All in all, unless Rundle Mall can get one step ahead of the Suburban Malls, its future is doomed. It needs a cunning plan, something that will make a trip to it worth while. But thats something very few people could deal with. Finally, I think it needs direction. Does the 'Mall want to compete with these shopping centres or does it want to be something totally diffrent? Will it like to attract people there purely for a shopping experience or simply for a good one off time at an Ice Skating Rink? I go for the former. But that will be an extremely tough challenge, one which I have little faith for. Until they can convince people that its not a chore to make the trip to Rundle Mall, Ill be at Marion. |

True, they do need to upgrade the mall
While i believe Rundle Mall is Australia's Best city mall atm, but if they dont upgrade soon it will become one of the worst in the country.

Have you noticed when you walk down it, the uneven ground? It also looks very dumpy at some places. They just need to beautify it for starters.

Well, the rooftop of David Jones will soon be a golf driving range FYI. It will be a 40m drive before it hits the net. Hopefully good views.
