This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Sydney has no planning or forward thinking, it has no heart, no soul, no direction. Great skyline though...................
Sydney has previously had no planning or forward thinking, now we have too much. The council has pretty much figured out what the city will be like by 2030. Every single site in the city has an individual height limit set on it, based on how it will overshadow other streets/parks and a lot of projects (like the 235m City One) have not been approved because they do not provide what the council wants for the future.

I like this tower. A 60 meter lobby should be really impressive, but also very inefficient in space and costs.

Without the extended lobby to give it extra height the building would not have much presence on the skyline. The higher the floors, the better the views, the greater the rent that can be charged to the office tenants. The "business plan" of the tower would have taken all of this into account.

Unfortunately, the current economic situation means the tower is on hold and may never see the light of day in its current form.

Great news. Though I have to agree with a few of the comments on here - whilst the 60m high lobby will be breathtaking, no one seems to win with it. Maybe keeping the amount of leasable space in such an A-grade building down will push the rents up so dramatically that it makes for better economic sense...?
