Look out my project about Rio's subway system
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?p=66413521

I know that everything is in portuguese, but i think it's quite understandable for other languages speakers.
I shall make a petition or something like that, there is already the line scheme and a spreadsheet with further information and cost range of the speculated stations.

I'm going to post only the links, just to do not disarrange the whole thread which is about actual stuff. By now, my project is still abstract, but we can change this. I hope so...

Line scheme: http://bit.ly/9AoNNG
Partial line scheme (how I think the construction should be started): http://bit.ly/b2Egj7
Spreadsheet: http://bit.ly/metrox

Supervia is the current railway for the suburban train of Rio.
My project links completely this railway with the subway.

The Situation of RJ Subway Today (february 2011)

Dear Sirs, in order to be clear about the situation of the RJ subway nowadays, here comes some explanations:
-There are only two lines operating:1 and 2.
-These lines were linked at the Estácio station in the past.
-Line 1 is an underground line and line 2 is a surface line.
-The trains running in line 1 were different from line 2 in the past.
-These scheme was changed and the lines were condensed in a shape of a "Y".
-Now the trains are the same in both lines.
-Both lines share the same stations from Central Station to Botafogo Station.
-In theses stations if you go towards the north zone is necessary to choose the right train to the desired line:1 or 2.
-Line 4 is under construction!
-After these changes the compositions tended to be more crowded in the shared stations.
-RJ has temperatures about 40o Celsius and some compositions were made to operate in underground lines (in the shadow). At the surface lines the sunlight overheats the compositions! Sometimes it's seems like a public sauna!
The amount of people attended by the RJ subway system were decreasing along the years. The subway company and the government decided do adopt some extreme measures in order to revert this situation! The numbers are increasing indeed but the quality of the service is falling proportionally!

A new Metro station will be submerged into a mountain like that?

I saw on www.urbanrail.net that line 4 is under construction. But where is line 3?

Line 3 will be built on the other side of the Bay, in the city of Niteroy, later it will be connected to the network via an undersea tunnel.

Are there any real plans for the line to Niteroy or it is just an idea?

It will be really great line. Will it go under the seabed? I heard somewhere it will be over seabed, but underwater. Is it true?

I think it's gonna be under the seabed. The Guanabara Bay "natural reflecting pool" is considered a natural heritage. So, it's impossible to build another bridge in a legal way, nowadays.

I’ve some questions (arose after viewing some websites). Please answer one by one –
1) Will line 1 be extended from Saens Pena to Uruguai, and from General Osorio to Gavea?
2) Will there be a new line 3 from Carioca to Sao Gancalo?
3) Will there be a new line 4 from Gavea to Jardim Oceanico?
4) Will there be a new line 6 from Ilha do Governor to Bara de Tijuca?
5) Where will be line 5?

Bud, where are you from? Are you coming over for the '16 Games or the '14 World Cup?

1) I live near of the Uruguai Street, and there are some working sites on the new station location. But, ironically, there will be no access for the Uruguai Street haha
I think the name should be changed to "José Higino", this street is as equally important for the neighborhood as Uruguai.
The new version of the "line 4" of the government is a direct expansion of the line 1 linking Barra da Tijuca with the rest of the system, and it is going to take Gávea station out of the system for a indeterminate time (in my opinion, a lot of time, like the eternity).
I think it also answers your 3rd question.

2) There is a project linking Niterói and São Gonçalo downtowns on the press. That shall be the beginning of the Line 3. We are rooting for this to come true.

4&5) My personal answer is NO. The population suffers because of this shitty government. There is no official intention to make these really important projects.

SORY MA BAD INGLISH
