No, certainly Line 3 will exist before Line 2 is extended at all. The plan to build a tunnel from Estacio de Sá to Carioca is just a vague idea, there are no concrete projects or funds.

Remember that "Line 2" today has trains all the way to Botafogo station, Line 1. Just as Line 1 trains will enter Line 4 all the way to the end.

In reality Rio de Janeiro has only one gigantic metro line with several branches and different services along it, from Pavuna to Ipanema (and with "Line 4" from Pavuna to Jardim Oceanico.

That's as far as I understand, it's complicated. But there is no clear border between lines in Rio.

Rio Metro planes

[QUOTE=dimlys1994;111691157]So it will happened after Line 2 extension to Carioca? I think this is right decision to cut down route and change from metro to monorail. It also good that Carioca wouldn't have lots of terminus platforms. So we won't see this network:

this map is old - about 5-6 years - a dream on which we will not life long enough to see it! there ist no reason for a circle line 1
Linie 2 to Carioca and including a bay crossing was in the first real subway study 40 years ago. Carioca was build as a crossing station - including that for line 2, but the crossing will not come in this decade. even there is a need.
this also in view of the ecent "new" connection of line 2 to line 1 for through service by passing along the existing depot, which is there located.

line 3 at the east side mostly along a former railway is u.c.

next possibility is a connection as of line 6.
but always Rio is lucking funds for Metro construction - currently get them in view of the WM and Olypics - but after that, I think it will go back to low action by funding.

Since it is virtually impossible to put a monorail underground, I think the best solution for extending the Rio de Janeiro Metro (regular rapid transit line) to connect with the Niteroi Monorail Line would be to split Line 2 from Line 1 and build a new tunnel across the Guanabara Bay. Currently, there is no firm plan for such a proposal.

There is an unused rail tunnel from Sao Cristovao to Estacio de Sa. If that is used for a possible Line 2 extension to Niteroi, what will happen to the Cidade Nova station? Will it remain intact or be decommissioned?

There's a way to split Line 2 into two services: one of them entering Line 1 (the current service) via Cidade Nova by-pass and the other going through Lote 29 (Estacio-Carioca).
Nevertheless, there's no logic to sustain this monrail line instead of standard rail for Line 3. Actually, unfortunately I don't think they're going to build it at least within some years.

The Ipanema/General Osorio Station is a terminus station. I remember an old plan which looked like a new through station was to be built just to the west of it, on the track from Cantagalo Station to the new Nossa Senhora da Paz Station.

First Rio Line 4 metro train rolls out
07 Oct 2014

BRAZIL: The first trainset for Rio metro Line 4 rolled off the production line at the CNR Changchun Railway Vehicles factory in China on September 29. The Type A trainset is due to arrive in Rio in December.

The six-car trainset has capacity for 2 240 passengers. The stainless steel body is intended to prevent rust in the humid climate, and powerful air-conditioning would keep the interior temperature at 20°C to 23°C even when the external temperature reaches 50°C. The air-conditioning is designed to shut off automatically if smoke is detected to stop smoke and potentially dangerous gases from entering the passenger compartment.

The train has a maximum speed of 100 km/h and is fitted with overspeed protection.

The 16 km Line 4 will run from Jardim Oceânico in Barra da Tijuca to Nossa Senhora da Paz in Ipanema. It will serve the Olympic Village, and athletes and spectators are expected to take the metro to events at the 2016 Olympic Games. According to CNR, the front of the train resembles a smiling face, to show that Brazil welcomes its visitors with a smile. The windows are made from plastic rather than glass, to prevent breakage by less restrained spectators after certain sporting events.

Deliveries of the 15 trainsets are due to be completed by June 2015, in time for the opening of the line in the first half of 2016.

A estação

The first Line 4 train rolled out of CNR Changchun's factory in September 2014.

BRAZIL: Communications project leader ENG has selected Kapsch CarrierCom to implement a Tetra digital radio network for Rio de Janeiro metro Line 4.

Kapsch is to provide four base stations, 140 handheld portable radios and 30 in-train cab radios for the fleet of 15 six-car trainsets, which CNR Changchun is supplying.

Running from General Osório to Jardim Oceánico, with a branch to Gávea, the 16 km Line 4 is due to open in the first half of 2016, in time for the Olympic Games taking place in Rio that year. Deliveries of the 15 trainsets are due to be completed by June 2015

I don't understand why they name subway line 4 as it is the continuation of line 1,would not it be more logical to name it line 1......

Actually according to local forumers the future "Line 4" will operate with trains coming directly from "Line 1" with no stops or transfers, there wil be services from Botafogo L1 station all the way to Jardim Oceanico L4. There will be other "trans-line" services as well, which makes in practice the Rio Metro system a huge single-line sistem with a few branches here and there.

— Vamos entregar as obras no prazo.
