It's amazing to see how much was lost to the Middle Ring Road. The traffic island took out a huge swathe of land.

You can just catch Curzon Street station in the top right hand corner of the photo, with the now-demolished depot behind it.

Has anyone got any idea what that large area is behind the Blues ground?

Seems to be maybe a football pitch or running track but does not look like a grassed area.

If you look on Google maps it seems to be housing now, with a spiral path on the grass between the houses (between Keeley St and Kingston Road).

Well the park now is Kingston Hill Recreation Ground. I did a quick bit of research:

Quote:
This cinder track was used by Small Heath Harriers and opened in 1928 largely as a result of the energies of the then Club President Harry Butler. Unfortunately local children made life very difficult for runners and the track was left to the vandals by the early 1930s. Kingston Hill Road Recreation Ground was and still is in Bordesley, Birmingham, near St. Andrews football ground, home of Birmingham City FC.

Nice photos. They are going to dismantle the Shakespeare Memorial room and put it into the new library. Before it was in the current library, it used to be in the old late Victorian one (which got demolished in the '70s I think).

Shakespeare Memorial Room

Quote:
The specialist Shakespeare Memorial Room was designed in 1882 by John Henry Chamberlain for the previous Central Library. It contained several early William Shakespeare folio editions. When the old building was demolished in 1974 Chamberlain's room was dismantled and fitted into the new concrete shell of the new library. It is in an extension of the main building alongside Birmingham City University music department's Adrian Boult Hall and used for Birmingham Conservatoire concerts. The room now contains the secondary collection of Shakespearean books and is mainly used as a small meeting room.

As mentioned previously, Youtube link to Book Store video

Apologies for the dodgy camerawork - I think I need to learn how to manual focus better and buy a steady cam.

I've got a few more video to process (book store - fisheye version, roof video - various different lenses!)

I have uploaded most of my photos from the 4am Project visit to the Central Library on to Flickr, hit the monthly limit so others will have to wait until next week.

More dodgy video, this time with a fisheye lens

Both videos available in HD (720 - so not HD according to Sony)

Saw these boots on the grass near the Cardigan Street car park building site, many of the workmen park their cars there.

Think maybe a workman took his boots off to change shoes, then forgot to put them in his car and drove off, leaving the
boots there.
