I though that they were essentially claiming that this tower's core was taller than that of any other tower in the world save for the Burj. But this 621 meters business doesn't make sense. Are they really trying to say it's 621 above sea level?

In that case there are dozens of skyscrapers in China and the rest of the world that are taller, and even a few supertalls that fit the bill as well.

If so they probably printed out the guiness book certificate themselves.

My Tianjin friend told me
591M the core or 597M just is structure height~621M means the C60 concrete actual pumping height~

C60 mean this

Sure 621meter ??

^I think you've gotten C60 wrong. C60 may refer to the "football molecule", as you've pictured, but it's also a designation for concrete. C60 is a mix of concrete with a final yield strength of 60 Megapascals, or 6000 tons per square metre (this explanation is a little rough, but it gives you the picture).

not the first time CTBUH changes title prematurely after the core topped out. happened with Shanghai Tower as well. They even made an announcement video last time. Made me giggle

My update from today

This is the highest construction site i have ever seen

Unfortunately line 9 is still out of order, so no update pics from Binhai

The top

The cladding

The base

The tower from close

And from far away. (sorry for the quality but the windows of the TV tower are really dirty)

The last pic makes it look like the tower is built from LEGO pieces. Surreal...

I guess if they pumb the concrete 621m high this still might not even include the crown structure which sits on top of it...
