Also thanks for the explanations about why it hasn't been finished and rented cheaply.

Your suggestions make sense

Speechless whilst I agree in general, it's probably true that it was built here because of cheap land. If you want to build in the city centre you're going to need to buy existing, developed land, buy off all the owners and demolish everything first.

Chinese people are very clear that developers often come calling to buy out the land and so prices are very high.

Regarding the skyline, the two 330ish meter buildings downtown do have a relationship with one another. They're not in a cluster but their positioning is more akin to Hong kong' two supertalls which look like giant gate posts in the city centre depending on where you view them from

The main problem with tianjins skyline is that there isn't a set piece viewpoint. There is no 'bund' type area as in Shanghai which will afford you clear views of skyline. The problem is twofold tianjin has multiple CBDs a bit separate from one another and also there's no one obvious place to look at them

I donīt know anything about prices of land in Tianjin, but if the building cost 3.2 billion and Kingkey cca 750.000.000 USD, Pingan 650.000.000 USD, we can see that this building is naughty expensive, according to my opinion as good as KK or Pingan, but not better, with worse surroundings, not generating any skyline. I donīt know what is acceptable for the developer, I can only say what I personally prefer. I would like the building somewhere near CTF Tianjin, for example. Somewhere near building which is called "天津海昌极地海洋世界" (dolphinarium). Thereīs so much empty space, so maybe it wouldnīt be extremely expensive. Places in itīs surroundings really reminds me Pudong, but of course, all skylines canīt be build in Pudong style, some differences there must be. There are also a lot of peninsulas in Bohai bay. Maybe nice places for some skyline (?)

If they built it near tianjin's CTF it would be far more expensive presumably

I heard the district (TEDA) has the highest GDP in China and renting land off the government is really expensive according to a government friend. As well most or all of the plots here in TEDA are already either occupied by new buildings or planned to be (by MSD).

I would love to have this on my door step as well though.

It would look great in the yujiapu cluster

An issue with the CTF cluster is that besides the CTF are all roughly the same size (200m roughly). These supertalls would arguably go best in yujiapu which has more significantly varying building heights and a taller average level

I'd just like to take a post to thank the forumer Oscillation, whose posts I always look forward to seeing - because I know they will always have excellent pictures/plans and observations.

Nice to see work on cladding here and some work on the top.

I notice that the cladding material in the corner seems very substandard compared to what's below it - look how it seems to be peeling off.

They ALWAYS correct the height 0.5 meters below and never above the previous planned height
