lol, tianjin construction speed is crazy I didn't think it has any chance going ahead of the ping'an and yet it seems it it slowly is

i am a tower crane operator and have never seen tower bases like these. i'd need convincing it was safe before i climbed up. i would like the platform pile braces to be made of solid steel, but even so, with the tower screwed directly into the exposed piles instead of into a great big lump of base ballast, shit that would make me nervous. nobody i've asked has ever seen this done before, but i guess the world's a big place and people do things differently.

Thanks for your input, if you look at the pics above. On the second pic down the base of the far yellow crane looks unbelievably skewed, how that thing stays up is anybody's guess.

According to the schedule, the tower should start to go above ground in July, reach 20 floors by next Chinese New Year, and be finished by 2015.

That looks like steel reinforced concrete columns braced with steel plate to me. If that's the case, then it's stable enough.
