the Chinese construction is fantastic, but I wonder if there really is demand for all this and if there will be an empty building:

I'm sure the developer thought about this before they started building such a massive building. They wouldn't build it just for the hell of it. Since this is China, with their rate of growth, I would assume that sooner or later, the demand will be there.

Not a lot going on I take it? still celebrating CNY, or are they just getting back to it?

Buildings like this get world-class, crack top sales teams to lease these spaces. They appeal to big name legal and consulting firms and names that have/want a big presence. When you pay a few billion to build something 600m+ tall, you will pay top dollar to fill that office space.

The luxury malls on the first lower floors almost always have world famous big name luxury brand anchor stores, lots and lots of them.

The condos in the John Hancock tower are and have been luxury condos for 45 years. These structures attract the wealthy. These big towers are very similar in that regard.

What you say, also makes a lot of sense. It's not every day you get a 600m tower under construction!

There are cranes EVERYWHERE. Let's hope this thing takes off in the next few months.
