speedier construction, superior design, there are enough reasons to prefer Ping-An.

but don't forget the roof of GF will be arround the same height as Ping An. The difference in size and height is just the spire, which isn't the big point imo

Goldin Finance 117 does have a higher roof height at 1,957 feet compared to the roof height of Ping An IFC which is 1,935 feet.

I wouldn't count out Greenland Center in Wuhan from this conversation which will have a roof height beating them all at 2,086 feet.

true and I don't care that much about height.

Wow, didn't realize this was still under 100 m. This still has over 80% of the way to go!

what's that building in the background with two cores? it looks fairly substantial!

Looks like the core of 117 will reach a mechanical floor soon.

Since we see now that there is clearly plenty of low cost real-estate that can be co-opted for that purpose right next to downtown. It doesn't seem to be a logical or economically sound decision from my POV.

What was actually the reasoning that they used to formulate this plan? Any specific reasons that I'm not aware of?
Well, historically, Tianjin's city center far way from the sea due to the stratigic coastal fortress of Dagu (latter become the port of Dagu), and it being a major terminus of the now almost useless grand canal. Tianjin is future will be somewhere close to the Sea, so I can see it as a Guangzhou vs Shenzhen type of situation. A up river old port town, vs a right on the coast port town.

Many large Chinese coastal cities (Tianjin, Shanghai, Guangzhou etc) are not historically right near to the coast (Like New York, Mumbai, Tokyo etc), but are built up river (similar to London, Rome etc) to avoid pirate raids, a non-existent problem today.

I don't think it's a post ground breaking ceremony, since they don't exist. Or at least I've never heard of one before.

Actually it has risen to almost 70m in height. It is slightly over a 3rd of the end height.
