I love this bldg., just doesn't get the deserved coverage. Thanks barbaric and Forum for keeping it relevant.. This will be the highest rooftop in the World!

I guess not being a mega tall building aka 600 meters in height doesn't help its cause either. If it were I would expect greater interest it just has the misfortune to be competing for attention with ST , Ping An and Greenland Wuhan that's a tough match up.

I think part of the reason why this building doesn't get much attention, is because it's located a fair distance outside the current city centre. Yes, upon its completion there will be a new city surrounding it, but at the moment it's all construction sites. That means there are no surroundings to show its size, no nearby buildings to take birds-eye-view pictures from, fewer people pass by it, and those interested in taking pictures have to go a little out of their way to grab them. Fewer updates and lower-quality pictures means lower interest.

I agree. Plus even at it's completion the surroundings won't be exactly fittable for 600m boxy building. There are only some spread highrises around. While ping'an for instance have no supertal for neighbor eihter it is really rising above the actual dense city center which isn't and won't be the case here. Shanghai tower case is on the other hand self explanatory I think.

Actually Tianjin is a ghost town that consists exclusively of construction sites and nobody lives there. Somebody said that in another thread.

Lol...a ghost town of 14 million people.
By that definition, Europe is just cluster of ghost towns.

Edit: I always wanted to try to take some pics of some empty side streets in Shanghai (preferably at 3am) and post them without any comment in the glorious "China's ghost cities" thread.

I wouldn't say Tianjin is the most liveable megacity. I was there in 2005, it was pretty cool living there. The winters are a bit cold tho. There aren't that many amenities and things to do, but it is pretty nice in the city center. Tianjin does have good food tho.

Tianjin city center is pretty nice now, good mix of old and new, lots of shopping, nice dense city core. The outskirts are just normal China though, nothing terribly special about the area around GF117.

I love the Diamond look.

This SOB is already taller than anything in my closest major city, the Ren Cen in Detroit, or Detroit Marriott/GM bldg. stands 727ft, but yet visible from 20 miles or30k out,, and this is only about 40% full height. probably will be visible from 60mi or 90k on a clear day.

This is going to be 1 of the top 3 most beautiful skyscrapers ever built "my opinion" if they just would go that 3 extra meters to give it "mega" status, it would get so much more "love"!

depending on the geography and clear weather, this should be visible from 90km but that kind of clear weather is rare.

*highfives for Michigan*. Yeah it's hard to believe it's that high already when in a way it doesn't seem like it since it's quite wide.
