994 FEET,, Incredible,, taller than most anything in USA, but for some reason, it doesn't look that tall, probably because of the location, at this time. In New York it would be the 3rd tallest building in the city, not counting spires or antennaes. VERY IMPRESSIVE.. This massive building just quietly rising and VERY few paying attention to.

And it's very wide for its current height.

Could someone please explain who will be renting out all this space, seems like every Chinese city is getting a 2000 foot building, I think it's a status thing, they want to these building to stand as symbols & define the cities as great places but is the demand really there? I'm not sure, anyone know better?
P.S. ( maybe I'm just a jealous american!)

They're building tall because they can afford it. The land won't be so cheap after 5 more years, they're using the opportunity

That's too simple and why people never seem to understand this development model, I think: the ROI is high because you have demand that is nowhere near being met (thus, the developer has an incentive to build as large as possible to capture as much of that demand as possible).

The government has an incentive to give as little land as possible (so they can seek higher and higher rents on the land beside such developments).

What we end up with is a set of circumstances that excessively skews the cost-benefit analysis for building high-rises. That is, abnormally high land value is acting as a proxy for low supply (not enough land), which has been the usual actor in extreme height (i.e. HK, NYC, etc).

Think about it, if you're paying 3x what a plot would be worth otherwise, you have every incentive to maximize your profits, and that is by building as large as possible.

In short, I'd say we make a mistake by comparing total Supertalls (proposals, U/C, or completed) rather than the actual amount of space that is coming onto the market on a quarterly or annual basis. That is more important. What we're seeing in many developing cities now is that these extreme conditions are providing an unusually high incentive to build large buildings. Higher than what was witnessed in the 20th Century (and since) in most [now] developed cities.

The total amount of development is probably not that different on a per capita basis (i.e. people can only inhabit one home and offices only need so many offices), but the configuration certainly looks a lot different (land values are pressuring developers to build much higher than they otherwise would, and the market is rewarding them handsomely for it, because there is much more demand than there is supply).

What I'm curious to see, is what kind of zoning regulations will emerge, as they tend to be reflective of the respective development models in a city (e.g. compare that of London and NYC).

I did on SSP, more eloquently, and I was called a troll and told it was "off topic..." (Post 598). Then again, maybe my problem was that I was on SSP; Hive-Mentality there.

Perhaps a trip over here and some first hand experience might answer most of your questions, I mean just walk in and ask them not a complicated process.

even not finish construction, but on that height, looks that tower has already domain from all towers on that region.
