I'm sure you don't know what you're talking about. I dare you, come on explain the concept behind the modern stonehenge, and come up with the reasons why they didn't add some common functionality, similar to Marina Bay Sands. Or some balconies at least.
What's the idea here? A tribute to the prehistoric Wiltshire stones? Get out! Totally doesn't come along with any concept on The Palm or Gate Towers. Just hammering hicks

Form following function, depending on the program, can a lot of times be solved with a simple form. For some, that's not cool enough and want twists and curves and add on's to make it into what they think is "interesting architecture". Some designers take this too far and because of all this crap to make it cool actually messes up the buildings functionally. See Zaha's fire station. Cool looking design, yet the building couldn't function as a fire station and was a complete failure. But hey at least it looked cool?

I don't think the Dubai Pearl is boring at all btw. If it ever finishes It will look quite nice.

If this ever finishes as designed it will look truly awe inspiring, but it'll never happen.

I never seen any valid, suitable designs from Zaha. Skewed, lop-sided boxes - that's what any kid usually does! It's always a huge waste of space, materials, and human resources.

Exactly as nice as 4 boxes and a slab on top of them. Lego thing. 3yrs+ approved.

I'm not sure whether you meant this negatively or not but I think a simple, elegant building is a welcome fresh air in (imo) a city of tackiness, architecture-wise.

It has its antecedents. China World Trade Center. La Defense. If its greatest flaw is not having become an obelisk, I call that rather faint damnation.

What is wrong with people not accepting and insulting others opinion ... I like this tower and that's that ... if you have problems with my opinion keep it to yourself or go see a psychiatrist.

Ssc is a forum where people can discuss certain subjects and share their opinion. No need to disrespect someone because he has a different opinion. Use strong arguments to defend yours and keep it civilised. To many threads have been derailed lately.

Anyway, I think it's an interesting design, but It shouldn't be build in Dubai. In a city like Singspore it could work out

I wonder, anybody of the engineers on this project ever considered the fact that this is a huge turbulence amplifier. Given a slight breeze that we wouldn't normally even notice, it creates quite high winds on some sides of it.

You do have a (solid) point, but isn't that the case with every group of nearby skyscrapers?

Do you seriously think the designers wouldn't have factored that in to their calculations?

As a matter of fact, (maybe accidentally, but) they have. By excluding all possible balconies from the towers. All the other negative consequences stay unresolved though. Including the absence of balconies.

So it's safe to assume we won't get another floor until 2014

Seriously though, I really want this one to get going so we can see it completed. I love the design

Is it lack of money that makes this great building slow?
