It was some actually cool to discuss about. And sorry mods, no more off-topic.
Interesting point, howether, the two vietinbank towers are architecturally separated towers. You could build one without the other (even with the long podium) and it would steel look good and complete. In case of pearl both the towers and the shared roof is one composition designed in one go. Architecturally a whole. Without the roof this would be an entirely different thing. It would be like taking tabletop from the table and still calling the remaining legs a table

In my opinion some of us are confused how buildings or towers are defined because they are no longer simple boxes like in the past. There was simple definition for a building in the past which now doesn't apply in many cases. If we decide that a building can't consist of several connected structures then all of the below are not single buildings.

The interesting question to me is not weather the elephant building is one or three buildings. What I would like to know is if the architecht looked at the finished thing and decided to continue his career or if he decided to go do something else.

That besides I can't look at it without smiling. I'm not sure i'd continue to do so if I had to look at it every day though.

Maybe the massive billboard to the right was errected by a discontend neighbour

The billboard is very far from the building, hundreds of meters away

It's really sad to see the old renders of Nakheel Tower and this tower from Meraas, which was planned to be built in Al Satwa or Al Wasl(?)...

Yeah pretty much all big tower projects in Dubai got canceled after 2008 burj being the only exception. Hopefully with this new chinese interest and/or the fact of winning expo will make at least some of them resumed. Pearl is nice example here although it's still not the magnitude of projects like dubai one or nakheel tower.

A friend in the steel industry that had got inquiries for this project in the past, told me that they are being contacted again now, a sign that a speed-up in the pace of construction might be eminent

Yes, I also think that an average countryman joiner can come up with a more meaningful design. Elephant building's design doesn't stand for anything that makes sense.
