This building can't stay on hold forever ... Located at the entrance of Palm Jumeirah this makes it an eyesore especially now EXPO 2020 is approaching. The closer we get to 2020, the faster all projects will go including this one!

I said it before and I will say it again ... Around 2016/2017 we will see another construction boom in Dubai. The ripple effect of winning the expo is still coming and what we saw in the past 2 years is nothing compared to where Dubai is heading.

currently Dubai is still putting out as many projects as all the crazily booming cities like shenzhen and new York. It's hard to imagine what another construction boom would look like on top of this one. We are heading towards something great!

Important to note that a lot of people seriously overstate the impact of an Expo because they've obviously never been to one.

Expo in any other city would be a normal boring event but when Dubai won, it became this awesome opportunity to show off and grow and Dubai knows how to do that ... But not everyone would understand this fact since they obviously never been to THE greatest city Dubai!

Exactly and they are nothing special at the end of the day, I find it hard to believe anyone is actually profiting from these expo's. I never really understood the point to be honest.

Slow down with the fanboyism (is that a thing? Lol) a bit mate, it makes you sound like some sort of 12 year old (not saying that you are).

I remember the expo in south Korea was more about sustainability and they didn't propose any crazy project whatsoever beforehand, because it would be against their motto pretty much. Even expo in China did not propose crazy buildings outside of that expo area itself. So I doubt the claim of all expo cities trying to show of with a construction boom beforehand.

I heard they got new big investors on board from a certain country nearby and will restart soon. If they'd continue with the same contractor or will seek a new one, is yet to be decided.

Don't on hold projects like this belong to the proposed supertall section?

Somehow SSC is totally inconsistent with this thread. At first it's been labled as U/C for years when there was clearly no progress, then the title was finally changed to OnHold but they didn't move the thread.

I really hope that the rumors are true, if a project like this can get a second life then there is hope for Pentominium and other projects too

Strong 'foot print' and massing, but zero in terms of climatic response at facade.
