just an interesting comparison. the tip of crystal island would rise exactly up to the groin of lenin's sculpture

(illustrators from left to right:Aldebaran, Jorge Cuitlahuac and MaleiG)

so far the most pretentious projects of monumental architecture in russian history have not been realised, although both times, in 1917 and in 1930's, these ideas were quite serious. the superb constructivist monument by vladimir tatlin for the 3rd international was cancelled due to lack of materials... war, you know. the palace of the soviets had already been u/c for many years, before the nazi invasion made an end to the project, the structure was dismantled and materials used elsewhere. it had had financial and other difficulties as well. hopefully this time there's more luck! (:

This building, if it gets build, could in a symbolic way mark the new era of rising Russian influence (in the world), like a huge lighthouse that signals that Moscow is a new-old center of the eastern hemisphere.

That's true that Palace of the Soviets was u/c. Huge foundation pit was evet completed and works nowadays as a base for rebuilt Christ the Saviour cathedral. But AFAIK Tatlin's tower had newer been more than a visiion. There even was no sertain decision where to put it: in Moscow or in Petrograd.

damn it, the only book about tatlin i have here is in russian and german! i should study more about this project...

hm... maybe so, that the only man really planning to build the tower was tatlin himself anyway, skyscraperpage has its status as "cancelled", and not "vision". i don't know much more...

and as far as i know, it was quite surely supposed to be erected in (or near?) st petersburg...

Just my opinion though.
Why do you think Kremlin pays for this project? It is private investment in all projects in Moscow, like in the other countries! Communism collapsed in 1991 so you must wake up!
