Some people always moan that Bham hasn't got a big river.
But the reservoir area is pretty much as good potentially as a Thames-side type thing.

So why have the Big City Plan stop before the reserv.?
I'd actually extend the reservoir and have it a fundamental feature of the wider city centre.

I wouldn't go that far but the city centre could extend, or at least be better connected to the reservoir.

I like that BPN scheme. Good find Spread

Why not.Much of the resid area of ladywood behind the NEC is a tip.
And even further towards the reservoir there's little of archit or other big merit.

The water feature wouldn't need to be deep.Just an "oasis".Something wider than the canals, connecting to the res.
A leisure feature. And sthg of scale suitable for breaking up the environment in larger scale developments.

Sthg like Parkin's plan for the Markets area.

Ok the boats couldn't be big ones. But it could be like a mini Toronto type thing closer to the city centre.

I think the Digbeth scheme was called St Anne's.

And that is very nice.

we kind of have a change in branding for the masterplan as it has also been extended

Ladyport
The Ladyport area of Birmingham occupies a strategically significant location to the immediate west of the City Centre and therefore, offers a great investment and development opportunity. With over 80 hectares of land available, Ladyport has the
potential to support some 6,000 new eco-homes as well as 3,000 new jobs and related
infrastructure. The first phase of development is Icknield Port Loop – a 40 hectare site with the potential for over 2,000 new homes and other mixed uses around canal side
setting. Ladyport, with an imaginative approach that caters for a host of different needs, has the potential to become an exceptional and exemplar contribution to the City’s
renaissance.

I think Ladyport includes the area going up to Edgbaston Reservoir. It's a shame that this has been delayed, though. There's real promise in this development.

Ladyport sounds like a slang term for a woman's 'special area'

I approve.

To be fair, the area isn't exactly blessed with great names... Ladywood, Ladywell, Ladypool

there are pictures but it will take me far too long to move them etc but it seems to be less of the area towards the reservoir (although this is included, where waterways are based) and more towards the city centre and jewelry quarter

edit: not jewelry quarter, i mean soho loop

Positive news from EGI Icknield Port plans closer to tie-up
Lisa Pilkington 30/04/2010 10:30

The £900m regeneration of Icknield Port Loop in Birmingham took a step forward this week with the signing of a joint venture agreement between Birmingham city council, Advantage West Midlands and British Waterways.

The jv hopes to create a mixed-use urban development on the 52-acre wasteland, which is currently home to derelict warehouses, a canal network, demolition sites and the Edgbaston Reservoir.

Original plans for the site, drawn up in early 2008, included a sustainable community comprising as many as 4,000 homes and 1m sq ft of commercial space.New proposals will be announced in the summer.

Edgbaston resevoir is a gem that really needs some investment and consideration within this scheme, the backdrop views of the city centre with the water in front are second to none and a wasted opportunity to sell Brum.
Though not wanting to spoil the nature walk round the lake, I would like to see the walkway tidied up and evn formalised a bit with some lighting.
What I would really like to see however is a quality leisure development replacing the Tower Ballroom. Am I the only one who thinks ( despite its undoubted history and memories for old brummies ) the exterior of this building is awful and totally spoils that part of the view towards the city centre, sorry but it looks like a shed! This really could be a massive tourist attraction for Brum if sympatheticlly invested in and developed, I am amazed that year after year this gem as been let go.

I think it's good news to see new plans being worked up. I reckon we'll be seeing less commercial space in the plan, for one.

This is probably the biggest plan to get British Waterways back on their feet. They'll be wanting to get this right.

My mum took some photographs around Rotton Park Street last Sunday. It is now all gone there's just a pile of bricks where the factories used to be. On the other side, the Salvage yard with all it's buildings and where the trucks drive up the ramp is still there.
