[NOVA GORICA] - Fotografije & video/Photos & Video

Nova Gorica

Municipality population: 31.911
Town population: 13.433
Wider town area: ~16.000

Nova Gorica is a town and a municipality in western Slovenia, on the Italian border. Nova Gorica is a new town, built in 1948, when the Paris Peace Treaty established a new border between Yugoslavia and Italy, leaving nearby Gorizia outside the borders of Yugoslavia and thus decapitating the area of the lower Vipava Valley from its regional center. Nova Gorica is the principal urban center of the traditional region of Goriška in the Slovenian Littoral.

Okay, let's start with some pics from my neighborhood:

In and around the center:

The plot for the 16-floor EDA Center:

Nova Gorica bus fare will cost you an exact € 0.00 (The bus to Italian Gorizia € 1.00)

France Bevk Public library:

Up Rejčeva Ulica (Rejčeva Street) – Currently the most active street in building new appartment blocks:

Nova Gorica is THE city of commieblocks

…and also a gamblers Mecca (some of the best modern architecture)

HIT Hotel&Casino Perla:

HIT Hotel&Casino Park:

HIT Headquarters Buildings I and II:

And now we will be going down Erjavčeva ulica (Erjavčeva Street), the main street connecting Nova Gorizia and Gorizia:

We'll wait for the train to pass…

…to reveal us the border crossing and the workers removing the last obstacles before the grand Schengen entry on December 21st when the mayors of Nova Gorica and Gorizia will be the first to cross the open border:

Now we'll turn right towards the square both cities share. A square devided by the border in 1947 and reunited once more on Slovenia's entry in EU in 2004:

THE square of all squares

A view of the Italian side with Hotel Transalpina to the left:

And a view of the Slovenian side with the oldest building in Nova Gorica – the train station:

That concludes our tour for today, thank you for your patience and interest

*(a photo tour of Gorizia will follow soon, if you're interested)

Prima reportaža. Nova Gorica je res urejeno in moderno mesto!

A se da na trgu pri železniški postaji tudi že pred uvedbo Schengena kar prestopiti mejo brez kontrole

Super urejeno zgleda Horica.

Sloveeeeenia !

Uglavnem, wiii, finally! NAŠ TITO

Sej kr lepo zgleda Nova Gorica.

Good job!

On the right hill it's Sveta Gora, a monastery, it's in Slovenia. On the left hill it's an Italian military outpost.

But our town really is pretty ugly.. I don't like it..

Yes on the hill on the right, named Skalnica (popular name Sveta Gora) with with a church dedicated to St. Mary and a monastery like edolen said

The left hill is Sabotin/Sabotino which is devided by the border on top, thus the Italian outpost and shiny tricolore at night on the left and NAŠ TITO on the right

To je pa če po zapornicah, preden prideš do mejnega prehoda na Erjavčevi, zaviješ levo.

Poteka pa tam skozi kolesarska steza do Šempetra, pravijo pa da naj bi nekoč šla od Tolminske do obale

Yeh i wanted to comment that square was a cyrcle

about that favellas stuff.. yeh tell me about it lol (it was a nice building in the 70's or so when built.. but then every individual 'decorates' his balcony as he pleases. There should be regulations about that. I'ts a reflection of the 1st highrise on the Telekom building btw

That tunnel is some 300m long i believe... it's a twin tunnel. On the other side there's still the main railroad connection to the south, this side was abbandoned after the border went up and the rail connection to Gorizia was terminated.
