VIENNA - 15th District (Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus)

Quote:
This is my newest picture project.
Lots of people know the sights in Vienna's Inner City yet don't know that there are actually 23 districts in my city.
I am going to portray each and every one of the districts in this series to make you familiar with the Real World Vienna.
RUDOLFSHEIM-FÜNFHAUS - 15th District

Area: 3.92 km²
Pop.: 70,500

R-F is the district where I was born, so ultimately it's something special for me, although it's not really a central part of my life these days. It's merely a district I pass through, nothing more.
The 15th is a classical semi-central working class district with a lot of immigrants, adding to a diverse picture.

I'm standing in the 15th district, the orange building is Vienna's main library in the 7th district:

Stadthalle, the biggest concert/event venue in Vienna:

Stadthalle again:

The subterranean Meislmarkt hall, a classical Viennese market:

Hütteldorfer Straße:

Towards the north and the city's green belt:

Wienerberg highrises in Favoriten (10th District)

The hospital where I first caught aglimpse of this world, 20 ys ago:

Crossing the Westbahn (the main railway line from Vienna to the west):

The Western train station (Westbahnhof):

Outer Mariahilfer Straße:

Westbahnhof again, this time from the passenger's point of view:

A classical tram (type E1) on line 52 and a modern low-floor tram (type A) on line 58:

Across the Gürtel, the outer ring road into the 6th District (Mariahilf):

Maria vom Siege church:

"Playing football is not allowed!" ("And why not?")
No surprise, then that Austrian football sucks big time if young people can't just play wherever they want...

We've very much proceeded towards the southern border of the Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus:

Contrasts:

The metro tracks at Längenfeldgasse station (U4/U6) I'm already standing in the 12th district, as I've crossed the Wien river to the left, which is the border. Now I'm looking east:

Facing west:

At least some artificial greenery:

Approaching the western tip of the 15th:

Mariahilfer Straße again:

From the 14th into the 15th.

I hope you enjoyed our little tour! Please comment and stay tuned for the lastseven districts!

Here's one more.

Yet another spectacular looking district. Public transportation options seem to be plenty and all over the place. The same thing couldn't be said for neither Copenhagen or Malmö's inner cities. Impressive.

I think Wien is going to see a renaissance similar to the one Barcelona saw in the early 90s. A sleeping bear waiting to impress.
