Hello!
I'm from New Zealand and I am new to this forum. I do exactly the same thing, only smaller. Many have tried what I do but can't seem to do it.
I'll try and finish one and post some time.

Is there any software for road design (except very complicated AutoCAD or similar)?

Here's a drawing I made a while ago envisioning a collector / express system along Highway 401 in the London Area. This is a long-term vision.

It's pretty rough (made in paint) and is not drawn to scale in any way, shape or form.

In addition, the interchanges are spaced much further apart and the overpassing roads are at different angles in RL.

Click here for full size if it doesn't display correctly.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy it, even if you're not familiar with the London Area. Just something to think about.

Here's one of my more detailed drawings, finished a couple of days ago:

Here is one by me, made on my table at school in the last days of the year ( the last days of June ). It rather simple, but I'm going to make it more complicated next year:

my redesign concept for the intersection of Admirals Road and Craigflower Road in Victoria BC Canada

another dedesign but the addition of a new bridge

this is my concept of a new interchange of Admirals road and the Trans Canada Highway. It is to scale according to google sateliette maps.. Currently it is an atgrade intersection with stop lights.

this is the Johnson Street Bridge area of Victoria BC (entering downtown on the right side of bridge). currently on the left side there is a sharp S curve as the roadway passes under a railroad. This concept design is to straighten out that curve, and allowing the railroad to continue under the roadway at to bore for a future subway. **Traffic turning left onto the bridge from Wharf street would mostley be effected.

I made some "New York Cities" on paper. The most extensive one comprised from Newark to Connecticut and it was made last year.
Currently i'm making a giant map of my fictional country Charliland (CRL). It's at scale 1:2.500.000 and the country itself is almost 1000 km long as the crow flies. It is surrounded by the Laurentian Ocean and by Danniland (DNL), Lineary (LIN), Cloney (CLN) and Adrenileukadystrophaist (ALD) (In what I was thinking when I named that country...)

And it is for this reason that I love CorelDraw

Highway 1 @ EXIT 50 - 104TH AVE, 160 ST - CONCEPTUAL (or at least, what they should have made it like)
(Click for fullsize, it's a huge image)
It's relatively incomplete but full of details!
Moar interchanges (152 ST & Cape Horn) coming soon!

I also draw on paper a lot... ever since I was a little boy, I've been doing so I never thought there'd actually be other people who draw things like these out there

@ geordieinthecity: I went to Victoria lately, the road system is a complete mess! :O really short merges, tight streets, poor turn lane design.... they should demolish the entire city and start over again IMO! :P The north merge on the Admirals Road interchange is too short. Lengthen it!
