Some cool drawings here. I'm slowly but surely drawing a plan of a medium-sized city on A3 pages, at the current rate I'd say it'd be around 50 A3 sheets once done. It's very unrealistic though, and has a ridiculously huge and complex motorway network. I'll try and upload some of the larger interchanges I've done. I'm also making concepts for a free-flowing complete interchange between 2 elevated double-decked motorways in a dense downtown area, just to show off of course.

EDIT: Oh and Patrick, your 5-way stack is pretty cool, would you mind if I use the design in my map at some point? I've already got a spot where I need a 5-way but cant come up with anything without it being a total mess. Cheers!

This map is from 1992, thin dark pink double lines show how these roads were actually build, in some cases the overlap.

I am drawing my own city since many years, but it hasn't got a name by now. Anyhow, I'll show you some pictures of it:

This is a typically neighborhood, dense and with narrow streets. Guess which real city I've used here.

Another pic, with elevated Autobahn (noticeable as the edges of the autobahn are double lined), elevated highway and a main road

Another Autobahn (elevated) runs through a governmental quarter, here the parliament on the left side

A modern part on the coast. The Autobahn you see here is the coastal part of the beltway around the city.

Autobahn with interchange where an elevated highway starts.

Inner core of the city. The zone with medieval buildings. A wide main ring road is where the old city wall once was.

Bridge over bridge here...

Cross of elevated highways (no autobahns, autobahns have longer separator lines)

Older neighborhood in the near of the city center.

Spiral road above the intelligence agency

A modern living neighborhood with highrises and green space inbetween.

Excellent drawings Chrissib!

You must put a lot of effort into your work. I like your attention to detail.

Whenever I draw maps at home, my partner tells me off for being too much of a geek!
He doesn't really like it my obsession with urban planning at all. I envy your freedom to draw!

Guess I cannot compete with the master drawers here. However, I recently managed to design a 8 motorway interchange, completely level-interchange free with all directions possible:

Furthermore, I managed to include a 5th motorway into Autobahnkreuz Mnchen-Sd :

Here is a drawing I made on my computer, over OpenStreetMap imagery, of the first of four sections of an idea I had for an M6 motorway, to bypass the existing (mostly) single carriageway M6 in Cape Town, South Africa. This first section would be called Southern Boulevard (to be consistent with the naming of the Western and Eastern Boulevards) and the other three sections (which I will draw some other time) would be called Hout Bay Freeway, Chapman's Peak Tunnel and Kommetjie Freeway. It is very unlikely that anything like any of them would actually ever be built, but we can dream.

This was my first time using Inkscape, so the drawing is a bit shabby. The picture shown here has been resized to 800 pixels wide; click on it for the full-scale (2006x1981) image.

The north-easternmost section is the as yet uncompleted Table Bay Boulevard, but from where it turns south to head away from Western Boulevard it is entirely my design. Also, the section running on top of Western Boulevard would literally be on top of it - Southern Boulevard would be carried by a viaduct above the existing Western Boulevard viaduct, creating a double-decker pair of elevated highways.

Holy crap that's impressive. How long did it take you to draw it, and what program did you use?
