ROTTERDAM | Boompjes 55-57 (O.M.A. Tower) | 130m | 390ft | 35 fl | Canceled

Another great tower project for Rotterdam!

Height: ca. 130m
Architect: Ralph van Mameren, Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA)
Developer: Multi Vastgoed
Price: 75 million
Type: 33.000m2 office, 17.000m2 parking (360 lots)

"A remarkable tower will rise on one of the nicest spots in Rotterdam. The site offers unique views to the Erasmus bridge and over the river Maas. The characteristic shape of the building appears different from every side and stands out in the skyline of Rotterdam, while providing a unique layout potential through the absence of a central core.

Wide at the bottom to match the existing footprint and slim at the top to prevent blocking the view of adjacent towers results in a remarkable contextual shape. Big office floors, voids, bridges and views throughout the building offer the user a lively activator for contact and internal communication. This spacious layout, together with high quality finishing, a sky lobby with roof terrace and a unique panorama-restaurant on the top level makes this a development extraordinary to Dutch standards."

Will replace building on the left:

And will fill out the whole on the left of the long stretched 90m high Willemswerf building (famous from the Jackie Chan movie):

If there is a mod who can change topic titles, I miscalculated, it should be 425 feet

^ Because I figured that most people in the international part would want to see both standards, hey it's a nice try anyway

Don't know, modesty? Is it that important?

I'm glad you like the design!

OMG, when has this news come out? I haven't seen it in the Dutch section.
The tower looks too massive for this location, especially close to the huge Willemswerf building - it will have a big impact on the skyline, not necessary a nice one.

^ I think the impact will be great because it breaks the 'roof' of approx. 75m alongside the entire waterfront. Also, it's shape breaks with an even bigger area of boxy buildings.

The occupants of the Red Apple and Waterstadtower won't like this because it will take away their view on the Maas.
But I think it is a good location to break the line of buildings with similar height at the waterfront.

nice project. congrats to Rotterdam!

Ironically the modern look of Rotterdam wouldn't be possible without the total destrution of the city in WW2.

That is true, but even before the bombardment by Nazi-Germany the city was rather modern in many ways. Mr Hitler (and later the allies) helped cityplanners a lot to solve congestion problems that prewar Rotterdam had.

Bullshit. Hitler didnt help. The bombing was an immens crime and destroyed centuries of city life. The afterwar plans could also be explained as (a little) crime, because of the poor quality. Finally the last years things are getting better is this lovely city.
