LOL, don't get me wrong, its a nice tower, however I am afraid Digbeth will become a commercialised pile of crap just like the whole of Birmingham if this gets built. And I do say it everytime, but after just spending the weekend in my favorite place on Earth. Camden it just confirms my theory that this is the way Digbeth needs to go, minus the few chain stores Camden has. The thing that gets me even more excited is that, thats the way Digbeth is slowly going, I cant wait to see how much Digbeth has changed in the next 5 years, hopefully its a dramatic difference.

I guess this would not destroy this vibe I want if built as it is on the edge and very close to the Bull Ring, just wait and see I guess.

I think the tower is an important component of the scheme as it's the landmark that bridges Digbeth and the city centre proper. Personally I'm a huge fan of the tower design, we'll have three buildings contrasting eachother really well in a very small area.

to be honest, given the size and scale of dgibeth, and the location of this site right next to the bullring, i doubt this scheme will have much of an impact on the 'gritty' aspects of digbeth so im all for it. if anything, the conversion of the Coldstore will support the gritty side of digbeth!

Just get the fucking thing built! I'm a size queen after all when it comes to towers, remember! The taller, the better.....worry about how unsightly it looks on the skyline afterwards. AFter all, didn;t they say that about the BT tower when THAT first got put up in the 60s?

This is one scheme that I think could just make it idealcopy thankfully. It seems to have always been bubbling away, little snippets coming through in the media reporting progress (compared to other schemes that as you mention, just seem to dissapear into thin air, cough Regal)

sorry guys but from what I hear, too many people are starting to get too many fingers in too many pies in this area and it's likely over the next 50 years or so this area is most likely to get very heavily commercialised. Chinese investors have certainly taken an interest in the area so you're likely to see lots more office and accommodation - most likely in tech, design, software/games and media.

That said, a Spitalfield Market type space could be successful.. Have a look around this area and you'll see what I mean.

It has its uses i find - especially with the crap that comes from some places on this forum.

Also, I had to put Hoody on it for a while (no offence Hoody) when he had his flashing avatar, 'cos it did my head in.

I have no shame in admitting to using it when some people put over 20 large pictures in one post and continue to do so further down the page, causing my connection to crash. Woody will have me on ignore for not talking about Beorma though :-)

Digbeth is a HUMONGOUS part of Birmingham's History, flattening it would be madness.

Most of it is factory units that are only built to last 20-30 years. Apart from a few old pubs, what is there?

I agree the tower should be approved because it is yards from the Bullring and near the city centre so it still sort of city centre like, and it would look good in contrast with the different buildings surrounding aka the Bullring, but I owuld rather they could keep the Digbeth Cold Storage as it is very urban and gritty, and as for the factories/warehouses, they should refurb the factories into urban living apartments and make Digbeth similar to Camden, and Brick Lane so then people WILL flock to live in the urban factory/warehouse refurbed apartments which will still look very urban and gritty on the outside, and some of the factories/warehouses could be refurbed into some more cool hippy big time big UK music venues with a real trendy buzz about it, and some factories/warehouses could be refurbed into music studio's for small time bands/rock bands/indie bands and even refurb some into proper music studios where big famous bands and music artists of today could use and put Birmingham and Digbeth right on the map!!! if only this sort of stuff could happen, oh wait there it actually CAN!

They could even relocate shitty terrestrial tv channels like Channel 4 or Channel 5 in Digbeth, and put Digbeth and Bimringham on the map.
