The thing I don't get about this story is how they said that they'll wait till the height limits increase and then lodge an application. The height limits along the blocks bordered by Alice and Margaret Streets, even in the CBD Masterplan, were always going to have low limits.

That aside it sounds promising, although I don't know if I trust Devine with a 6 star resi tower?

BTW, where is this site exactly?

Devine 6 star probably means 6 star quality concrete. Hope they get it right. Not too sure where this site is either. If its a prime site, it really needs some height to it

i would be very surprised if they built anything above 4 star on an international standard, how bullshit they can up the hype and say 6 star... call me skeptical if you will. Dubai/New york these are the places to set the 6 star benchmark.

Although if we were to get 6 star...this is where it would be. Overlooking the Parklands toward the river. I agree though neilo63, I think they are overhyping to gets some free advertising, and it is Devine when all is said and done, the masters of cheap!

On the whole I am quite positive about this one funnily enough. If we did want Devine to change then this is exactly how - six stars and an international design competition. It might not be the Burj Al Arab but it's hard to go too wrong with that combo.

I'll wait till I see the designs before drawing judgment, but still, it's a move in the right direction, gotta pay em that.

I think that eyesore across the road, the Royal, will not help sales. The Royal site is the best one. Sooner someone does something interesting there that ties the cbd to the botanic gardens the better.

Exactly...Although I think this particular site looks a hell of a lot worse than the Royal site!

Having Vision with 50-100m away could also help to counteract bad sales from local dodgey buildings!

International design comp sounds gd. However I doubt Devine and its understandings on the design side of 'international design'. Just because its international - doesn't necessarily mean it will great.
Speaking of 6-star hotels...and a site next to gardens; my mind conjures up stuff along the lines of Sheraton On The Park in Sydney - but - shock! horror! in Brisbane! ... on this site!! wouldn't that be great.

This sounds promising, I think it should be a medium height to blend well with the botanic gardens and edge of the city. Remember that design is better than height, we want this to be aesthetically (can't spel) pleasing - especially with devine involved. Although, the international design competition sounds great!! This could also put Brisbane on the map along with vision and others.

Has Brisbane had an international design comp. for anything??

Cheers Aussie Bhoy.

Looks like they could probably go quite tall going off the masterplan projection below (which is just a base anyway).

However i think cost will sooner be a determining factor in height on this one, $250 mill ain't that much, Charlotte towers projected value was $170 million. Given this is meant to be six stars and is projected at $250 million it seems likely to be 140-200m max, probably at the lower end of the scale. Course if it's a hot design then I hope it's taller.

Given that the site is very close to the park and not that large, I doubt anything particularly tall will be built. As long as it's over about 130m and a wonderful design, i'll be happy.....should fill a gap in the skyline nicely.
