I cannot, considering there already are a few towers well over 500 feet, with International Place almost across the street over 600 feet. This location is a PRIME spot for a tower of that height.
I do agree about the buildings. The re-design is very nice. Much better than the first proposal.

It has to do with casting a shadow over the park space, which is intended for the recreation of people, who are humans and have emotions which are effected both physiologically and psychologically by the amount of sunlight to which they are exposed. It also has to do with the perception of feeling "boxed in" by overpowering buildings in a narrow space. This park space is pretty long and narrow so the geometry of the space could easily have that psychological effect on people.

I love tall buildings... that's why I visit this site... but having studied some architecture in college I also understand that buildings and urban spaces are intended for people.

I can't speak to the specifics of this site because I haven't looked at plans or shadow studies for the location, but I'm speaking on the subject in general.

Again, I really like the design proposal for this building. It's much better than most out there in my opinion.

Hopefully in the future the apes will enjoy our urban spaces as well.

The Prudential Center Complex Is Getting A Brand New Tower

Quote:
Back Bay is going to have a couple more cranes coming. Boston Properties, who just reported their earnings today, is proceeding to build out 888 Boylston, a new 17-story tower on a vacant lot in the 23-acre property.

Construction on the entire mixed-use complex began in the 1960s, and will conclude in 2016 (original permitting to build fell through in the economic downtime that was 2008). That makes this process longer than the Big Dig.

The now empty lot, next to the plaza of Hynes Convention Center, will gain 422,000 s.f. of total space, with 60,000 s.f. allocated for retail. While financial firm Natixis Global Asset Management has signed on to the new space, retail space has not been spoken for yet.

The March Toward Boston's First $20M Condo Begins

Quote:
Construction on the massive pair of towers (massive for Boston, at least) at the Christian Science Plaza is likely to start this fall. The taller of the two towers will be quite swanky, with condos and hotel rooms managed by the Four Seasons brand (the tower's rendered above, to the left of the Pru). Speculation has already started as to whether this 699-foot spire, destined to be the tallest residential one in Boston, will host the city's first-ever $20,000,000 condo deal. Allow us to add to the speculation: Yes, or the tower going atop Copley Place will.

New Development Bringing a Little Fort Point Magic to Eastie

Quote:
As 2014 opened, the 4-acre eyesore at 6-26 New Street on the East Boston waterfront sat dormant. Recall that the site, which includes an old industrial building, had been all set to be redeveloped into a complex with 163 apartments, dozens of hotel rooms and a water-taxi landing—a big, bold exclamation point at the end of the city's plans for East Boston's waterfront in general. Well, those plans just kind of came and went with the outgoing Menino administration, and 6-26 New itself kind of languished in financial limbo.

Enter Portland, Ore.-based developer Gerding Edlin. The folks behind Fort Point's Factory 63 and its innovation units as well as 315 on A and its 20-Minute Living stepped in in January with similarly ambitious plans for the site: 250 studio, 1-BR and 2-BR apartments in two buildings, one 16 stories, the other seven; a new water-taxi dock; up to 155 parking spaces; and a 12-foot-wide extension of the harbor walk in that area.

Construction on One Seaport Square Could Start Next Month

Quote:
One Seaport Square, a giant part of the giant Seaport Square project in the Seaport District (Seaport!), could break ground in the next 30 days, according to an executive with developer WS Development. We've been here before, though, with the groundbreaking originally expected in April 2014. The latest target date, vague as it is, comes via news of a movie theater joining the ranks of the project's retail.

As for One Seaport Square overall, plans call for two towers of 22 stories each with 832 luxury apartments and 260,000 square feet of retail on connected lower levels (the 41,375-square-foot movie theater will be on the third floor). Together the towers will encompass 1.1 million square feet, roughly 17 percent of Seaport Square's total.
