Urban areas such as NYC are also subject to urban heat islands. Urban areas by their nature generate more heat than rural areas from various sources (sheer body heat, lights, vehicles, buildings, etc.) so it may actually be snowing, but as the snow reaches the ground the ambient heat from the city turns it into rain. You'd need a strong blast of cold air or a prolonged cold snap to chill the ambient air enough for lasting snow to form.

That picture is Maryland on the Southwestern portion,Delaware right next to it,Pennsylvania is north of Maryland/Delware,East of Pennsylvania is New Jersey and right next to New Jersey is New York.Where there isnt white, is where I assume the Rain/Snow line was.

As I said, lucky near no population centres!...... just kidding....I do recognise this area even though I live on opposite side of the world. There would be millions of people in the area of this pic!

That would be correct.New York City alone is about 8.5 million and philadelphia is like 1.5 million and Baltimore's metropolitan area is 8 million also.Just in that pic alone, there's about 15,000,000+ people.

Better not to get snow if it's gonna turn into dirty slush. It's hard to shovel, too, y'know.

December was crazy in Boston. We got like 5 inches on that storm that hit unexpectedly like bird shit.

The day I was leaving to go home for the holidays it was snowing from 7am to about 3pm once we got a little bit into Connecticut it was pretty much clear.

Ever since Ive been home its hardly been below freezing it seems

All the snow is pretty much been washed away.

10 yrs before that when you were 2 or 3, we got what I think was dubbed back then "the storm of the century". From what I remember the snow was about up to my chest. Try being 12 with the snow up to your chest, trying to shovel your moms car out of a parking spot.

Man I hate the snow, but it doesn't snow like that anymore......(at least not in the past 9 - 10 yrs)

Yeah, I can't stand snow, either. Sure, it looks pretty on the branches of trees, but then it's just a sloppy, ugly mess for however long it takes before it melts. Thank god winters just ain't what they used to be.

but I agree, this winter's felt more like an extention of fall... kind of cool if u ask me... but in another way, kind of scary!

That always happens here..Its disgusting to have all that dirty and black slush in ur shoes and socks. But I agree that parents shouldn't make kids shovel so much snow..its just a HUGE pain in the ass.
