Wow, I never though this thread would be real. But still I would have been nice to see some construction photos of it between 1987-1992. I hear Pyongyang was quite a boomtown back then.

she's right up there with the palace of the people in bucharest, palace of science and culture in warsaw, and the seven sisters in moscow. i hope they never finish or demolish it. what an eerie symbol.

i haven't heard any sources of it resuming construction. I've actually kind of become quite interested in North Korea and what it stands for. Sad city that Pyeongyang has turned into. The highways are ghost like, and there are so many unknowns, such as whether the metro in the city actually runs, or is it just run for show when tourists (limited in number) do visit.

In the world of information like today, you would think there would be more revealed about the country, city and structure.

I am very doubtful about the hotel having resumed construction. I could be wrong, but I just am pretty sure that building has been left to rot and eventually, will probably collapse on its own.

Even after the Dear Ego has joined his father in that Great Workers' Paradise in the Sky™ and the peninsula has been reunified, I too would just let it sit and crumble.

I think we'd all assume that since this project consumed 2% of the North Korean GNP (gross national product) .

i think there is very little chance of resuming its construction because according to Emporis, "the building will never open as presently constructed. The concrete used to build the hotel was very poor, making the structure unsafe, and it has worn down even more over the years."

The restart of construction is just more North Korean propaganda. Nothing more. Everybody knows that this building is a death trap.

Ì think you can photograph the tower, even if there is many things you can't in North Korea. The tower is a symbol of the city, and btw, it's so high that we can probably see it whatever where you are in Pyongyang.
