Broadband in Pakistan
What is taking soooo long in Pakistan? Its pissing me off. I know you can get broadband in Islamabad.. but what about major towns and cities like Gujrat, Jhelum, Kharian, etc. Pakistan is really falling behind...
Almost 80% of internet users in UK got broadband. |

you can get broadBand not only in Islamabad but also in these cities as well Lahore, Rawalpindi, Karachi, Peshawar, Hyderabad, Quetta, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sheikupura and Hub. I know for fact that Sheikhupura is no big city so I am sure it will available in Gujrat as well pretty soon

Yes, from Wateen. www.wateen.com
Except from one little quibble, they're good. They just need to have uncapped bandwidth. Caps = no-no. |

Gujrat and Kharian are two distinct and distant places, I believe.

With PTCL now offering newer packages and with wateen now expanding, I think internet access will be revolutionized within a year or two.

PTCL landline through out Pakistan is now pre-activated to be used with modems for dial up connections, it's pretty good connection and has good speed, you don't even have to buy scratch cards, you will be charged for this service in the monthly PTCL bill, check out the PTCL website for usage details. PTCL broadband service is available in most cities and it's pretty good aswell, I am using it for quite sometime now. Very soon it will be available throughout Pakistan.
Wateen WiMax is still in the testing phase, but its fast and reliable, I have even used it on M2 (Lahore to Sial section) and M3 motorway with my laptop, it works just fine, it will soon be available through out Pakistan, but it is much expensive than PTCL braodband. |

When these ISPs say 128kb, or 256kb, do you actually get that much speed on their connection?

you never get the stated speed in any connection any where around the world. Because those are optimum speeds and they only happen when all factors work well and that doesn't happen.

I know they are optimum speeds but in US/Europe you often do get that speed (or close to it). But in Pakistan it used to be just just the connection speed, not the download speed. So thats what I am asking: is it still that way, or not?

I got free modem and Free installation on 6 months advance payment.

In Islamabad Best DSL provider is Micronet http://dsl.net.pk/
Their 1st best selling Package is 384 Kbps @ Rs. 999/- (Volume Per Month 3GB Only) Their 2nd best selling Package is 512 Kbps @ Rs. 1,199/- (Volume Per Month 4GB Only) Only disadvantage is that they dont allow unlimited download ![]()
