W.D.P: At the moment we are working on a highrise in New York.

F.Z.: Would you like to explain this project?

W.D.P: It is located right next to the Norman Foster building on the Eighth Avenue and Fifty-fifth Street and it will have a twisted shape, it's a hotel and apartments, with a a very distinctive appearance. I would like to make a statement: architecture now is an occupied territory, occupied by the building industry, by the business clients, by money. An architect today has to decide whether he will go into the resistance or will be a player, will be on the side of the money. I think that good architecture can only exist when the architect decides to go in the resistance.

That came to my mind for a second but that model doesn't look like the TW Center much. Who's the developer?

Whoa, another one. Looks really nice IMO, good for mixing things up in that area since nearly everything around there is a box.

I swear, the excitement of opening up the "Supertalls" forum and seeing a new thread with the words "NEW YORK" in its title is second to none.

I think I'll have to see a little bit more of this tower to get a feel for it. Hopefully it gets built though - another thousand-footer will certainly be great for the city.

The building's twists look amazing.

But is the project real? Any other info or articles besides the interview?

Hey, a new (super)tallest for the North of Midtown would be fine.
The twisted shape looks a bit adventurous from some perspectives, but overall interesting and not as a copy of Turning Torso, Infinity Tower, Chicago Spire or other "twisters". This would be an enrichment for the NY skyline, and I hope this project will find the necessary investors and pass the approvement process soon.

Then I'd call this location the "Gr8 Avenue"

I don't get this statement by the architect Wolf Prix. This sounds as if there were no chance for innovative architecture, and only cheap boxes were built for the quick money nowadays... but aren't there dozens of spectacular projects going on right now worldwide, that would've just been considered as impossible to realize 30 years ago? So in fact Prix is a "player" in my eyes, especially if this tower makes it. For a true "resistance", he should build igloos on Baffin Island.

One question:
Is "New York Tower" the proposed name, or only a temporary placeholder?
